I have always wondered how our system of government would run if Congress were a drafted position like jury duty. Four rear term, $50,000. per year pay regardless of what you made in the private sector.

I've sometimes thought pretty much the same thing though instead of having a draft I'd have a voluntary lottery. Only those who wanted the job would be eligible for selection, but there'd be no campaigning--just a random selection. Probably wouldn't produce results too much worse than what we actually have.
