What would you know about sane? You are well known as a statist troll in this forum. Statists are insane by definition. Oh and btw unless you want to flame on a bit I noticed that you have nothing to add to the discussion (and never did) So go bore someone else.

What I don't know about sane I look to you for. Since you are guaranteed to take the lunatic view on about anything I simply reverse the conclusions.

I take it that you consider his "opinion", that the second amendment means exactly what it says, to be a lunatic view.

Nope. But as you mentioned earlier it does not mean anyone has a right to possess their own bombs or missiles. Or silencers.

As I mentioned? I think you have me confused with someone else...

The only limitation I personally would place on arms is safe storage, in that the weapon in question must be inherently safe to own, or in other words there is no inherent danger in possessing them such as there is with chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. If, as a civilian, you wish to own these weapons they would have to be stored a government owned/operated/run facility for safe storage. This of course would not apply to anything but weapons that could cause widespread devastation.

You may be right that I confused another's comment with you. No offense intended.

In discussing the Founders' intentions wrt the second amendment it should be recalled that they had no intention that it cover the states (and that was confirmed in the Barron vs Baltimore SC decision.) The Bill of Rights was directed at the fedgov and the states legally violated them. This was particularly true wrt the second since blacks in the South were not allowed firearms. Nor was the first applicable since abolitionist newspapers and magazines were routinely removed from the mails and not allowed to be sold and state sponsored churches common in many of the states as well.

GGs often point to the militia as the reason for the second but never point out that all able bodied men were in the militia. Thus, the intention was that when a call went out for militia service the population was armed and ready for the call. Ironically Illinois specifies that all able bodied persons are considered part of the militia yet at the same time allows cities such as Chicago to have some of the most draconian gun control laws in the land.
