The cognoscenti and celebrities of Jerusalem have been extremely busy in anticipation of "Jerusalem Day," which falls next week. Producers, journalists, researchers, demogogues, rabbis and those who predict the messiah will come are all preparing for their great moment, the day on which the conquest of East Jerusalem in the 1967 war is marked.
Once upon a time, when the idea was conceived to add this day to the calendar, already overloaded with patriotic memorial days, it was known as "Jerusalem Liberation Day." But it soon became clear that this name was false and cynical; the liberation meant subordination of the Arab population and the day became a day of mourning for one-third of the city's residents.
Then they began calling it "Jerusalem Unification Day," until the intifada arrived and tore asunder the illusion of "unity." By default, the present banal name, "Jerusalem Day," remained, but the event itself is not as neutral as its name: it is an expression of antagonism and xenophobia, a chance to hold arcane ceremonies of allegiance and to nurture nationalistic and religious myths.

FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel ping list.
WARNING: This is a high volume ping list
I have an Israeli flag but don't have a Jerusalem flag. I wish I did. It's beautiful. It's the white background and two horizontal blue stripes but instead of the Magen David it has the Lion of Judah (this is for the benefit of other readers, not you, Alouette).
How ironic that while Holocaust denial is against the law (because it allegedly violates a "secular taboo") people like this can denigrate and deny the TaNa"KH in 'Eretz Yisr'ael itself. No wonder HaShem has allowed Holocaust denial to arise!
My son's IDF battalion patch featured a menorah with a lion in front of it.
He has completed his tour of service and returned to civilian life.
The Ethics of the Fathers says: It is better to be the tail of a lion than the head of a fox.
Extreme leftists like Benvenisti enjoy wealth and reputation as "intelligentsia" elite in the Israeli upper class.
If they were to emigrate to the U.S. (or more likely France for Mr. Benvenisti) they would be worthless nobodies, and worst of all = they would become the very "Jews" whom they so despise.
Typical.....make an outrageous statement, so we waste our time defending Jerusalem Day and debunking the statement instead of concentrating on the problems at hand, such as an increase in attempted suicide attacks (several potential "shahids" apprehended in the past few days).
Right out of the lib playbook as written by Noam Chomsky.
Well, I don't have a great deal of disposable income at present (and have a possible huge car repair bill coming up), but I appreciate the links! Thanks!
This is just tragic. Are people ever going to stop seeing Israel as the bad guy? The whole world seems antagonized by Israel, militant muslims are trying to kill us over supporting Israel, people talk of Israel being a [sic] binational state and for WHAT!? Because Israel oppresses people?
Israel is about what, the size of Connecticut, yet "palistinians" want Israeli land despite the fact that they should be able to have some arab nation be the palistinian state. I have yet to understand the part where this makes any sense whatsoever. And who's killed more Palistinians, Israeli military of Arafat and the PLO? If it is in fact the former I'd like ot hear about it but I doubt it. Long Live Israel.
Zechariah 12:3
And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
"Just in case anyone thinks that Jerusalem is not a part of future giveaways for "peace" the verminous Left is already setting the table."
A picture came to my mind of my kids all squabbling over who puts what on the table when it's time to be set. "I get to do the forks, you do the napkins!" Etc. I am afraid there are a lot more than just the "left" there fighting over who gets to carve up what and do what. Seems not many are going to sit out on this food fight.
So again:
Zechariah 12:3
And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
