I would say Brady/Manning comparison is equal to Montana/Marino comparison.

Montana had better passing stats than Brady. Montana also didn't have a top ranked defense. The 49ers offense powered the team, not the defense.

Precisely. Like I said, does anybody really think the if Brady was on another team he would beat the Pats. No way. It's all their coaching. Bill Belichick is one of the best ever, Brady thrives in his system. If you put Brady on the Colts and Manning on the Pats, both would still be good team, but the Pats would demolish the Colts, worse than they beat them the way it is now.

Montana is the best pure quarterback I've ever seen, but the Niners did have some pretty good players on the defensive side of the ball in the 80's. Fred Dean, Hacksaw Reynolds, and Ronnie Lott jump to mind. The offense usually managed to break other team's hearts in the last minute or two of the game(Bengals in the SB, the Saints everytime they played, etc.), but their defense wasn't shabby.
