I was looking for a thread from April 28 and finally found it in my old ping pages from that time. Unfortunately, the thread was pulled. The thread was titled:

West High math teacher accused of anti-gay remarks plans to resign

A friend of mine knows the West High teacher. The teacher, Mr. Thompson, quit his high tech job to teach in his home town, but after a year decided to quit teaching and move out of the state.

It turns out the press completely got the story wrong, of which you are probably not surprised. Here's a sequence of events:

Mr Thompson turns in his resignation letter
Some time after that, students asked him who he voted for in the last Presidential election
He responded: "President Bush"
In a private conversation, when asked why he voted for President Bush, Mr. Thompson told a student he believed President Bush held the right position on homosexuality
People started twisting and misrepresenting what Mr. Thompson said
The Press took the misrepresentations and ran with it

It was made to look like Mr. Thompson resigned because of the issues surrounding his views on homosexuality. He didn't as he had already turned in his resignation letter. There have been quite a few misrepresentations about Mr. Thompson since that time.

Last week, a parent from one of the students came into his classroom and assaulted him. I'm not sure of the extent of the assault - my friend is checking. It was something along the lines of pushing him up against a wall and holding him there - I'll find out more.

How's that for tolerance?
