CNN: Detainees, Not Soldiers, Flushed Quran
CNN ^ | Saturday, June 4, 2005

A U.S. military investigation into the mishandling of the Muslim holy book at the Guantanamo Bay prison for suspected terrorists has determined that detainees -- not U.S. soldiers -- attempted to flush the Quran down the toilet there.

-SNIP-

In one incident, on February 23, 2004, the report said a guard saw a "detainee place two Qurans in his toilet and state he no longer cared about the Quran or his religion.

Five minutes later, after the detainee retrieved the Qurans, he ripped several pages out of one Quran and threw the pages on the floor. Then, he placed both Qurans on the sink."

Another time, on January 19, 2005, a detainee "tore up his Quran and tried to flush it down the toilet. Four guards witnessed the incident," the report said.

The report also cited 12 other incidents by detainees, including one who used his Quran as a pillow, another who urinated on his holy book and several who ripped pages from the Quran.

Capt. Jeff Weir, an Army spokesman at the facility, told CNN in a phone interview that the detainees were typically trying to stage some form of protest when they mishandled the Quran.

Hood said investigators reviewed more than 30,000 documents in an exhaustive probe.

"The inquiry found no credible evidence that a member of the Joint Task Force at Guantanamo Bay ever flushed a Quran down a toilet. This matter is considered closed," the report said.

It said the U.S. military has issued more than 1,600 copies of the Quran since January 2002, conducted more than 28,000 interrogations and carried out thousands of "cell moves."

"Mishandling a Quran at Guantanamo Bay is a rare occurrence," Hood said. "Mishandling of a Quran here is never condoned."

This whole this is just making the koran seem special.

Lets not focus that it's just a crummy idealogical book.

If we make go on and on about how he never would touch a koran, it just makes the 9/11 types more emboldened.

If we make it clear we don't give a damn about the koran, they'll still hate us, but it'll adjust them to knowing so now.

Even if this is reported in CNN (which is shocking in itself) it's certain to not hit publication in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

It would not surprise me at all if the Islamofascists are the ones desecrating their own "holy book" in order to *attempt* to make our military men and women into villains.

According to their holy book that tactic is certainly permissible.

I think the US government had better investigate that AP story that came out earlier which was completely bogus.
It's obvious AP is purposely trying to fuel Islamic uprisings.

Another thing I find strange is WHY we are passing out korans to detainees. It's that book of hate which causes the worlds problems in the first place.

Don't worry, the AP already have an excuse and it will be something to the effect:
We are sorry, we have fired the editor, he overlooked the fact the "soldiers" should have been "prisoners" in our original publishing, we stand by our sources.

Wow, LAURENTIJ, talk about damned if you do damned if you don't.

Not that I'm a staunch defender of the MSM, but when they were saying U.S. personnel in Gitmo were desecrating the Koran they were attacked (and rightly so) for using unsubstantiated rumor to smear the administration.

Now they are saying U.S. personnel didn't desecrate that book and somehow you equate that to mean they want us to worship the dang thing.

Now there's a story I can believe, it's true because it's so simple and confirms what I know about human beings; these idiots have been in Gitmo long enough to realize that everything the the clerics told them about Christians and Jews and their 'divine, sinless' prophet is a load of codswallop - no one has cut off their heads, their arms or their legs, they haven't been put through shredders, good heavens, the Pentagon even issued a three-page Memo instructing the guards to wear white gloves when handling that terror manual that tells the 'good' muslim to kill infidels (that's you and me, in case you are wondering or don't think you qualify for infidel-hood) and hey, he's been there for (how long?) and all he's had is a clean bed, good food, showers, medical and dental treatment - what would you do if you were him, hey?

You'd stuff that stupid book down the toilet!

Jihadi, listen up now; the boys at Gitmo are trying to tell you something. That there koran, it ain't holy, it's full of shite and lies, pull the chain, push the button and lets give it up! IF YOU STAY IN GITMO LONG ENOUGH YOU'LL GIVE UP ISLAM 'COS GITMO'S MORE FUN THAN ISLAM IS!

And that's the simple truth of it.

When you see what the koran is for. Your death and mine. You gotta wonder how it's a bad thing to desecrate it.

For the same reason we would hand out bibles to any Christian detainees: we recognize free worship to be a basic human right.

The koran is an idealogical system same as communism or mein kampf.

Very, very similar. The end results are the same.
