A U.S. military investigation into the mishandling of the Muslim holy book at the Guantanamo Bay prison for suspected terrorists has determined that detainees -- not U.S. soldiers -- attempted to flush the Quran down the toilet there.

In one incident, on February 23, 2004, the report said a guard saw a "detainee place two Qurans in his toilet and state he no longer cared about the Quran or his religion.
Five minutes later, after the detainee retrieved the Qurans, he ripped several pages out of one Quran and threw the pages on the floor. Then, he placed both Qurans on the sink."
Another time, on January 19, 2005, a detainee "tore up his Quran and tried to flush it down the toilet. Four guards witnessed the incident," the report said.
The report also cited 12 other incidents by detainees, including one who used his Quran as a pillow, another who urinated on his holy book and several who ripped pages from the Quran.
Capt. Jeff Weir, an Army spokesman at the facility, told CNN in a phone interview that the detainees were typically trying to stage some form of protest when they mishandled the Quran.
Hood said investigators reviewed more than 30,000 documents in an exhaustive probe.
"The inquiry found no credible evidence that a member of the Joint Task Force at Guantanamo Bay ever flushed a Quran down a toilet. This matter is considered closed," the report said.
It said the U.S. military has issued more than 1,600 copies of the Quran since January 2002, conducted more than 28,000 interrogations and carried out thousands of "cell moves."
"Mishandling a Quran at Guantanamo Bay is a rare occurrence," Hood said. "Mishandling of a Quran here is never condoned."

I do not disagree that we are facing a war of incredible proportions. I also agree that religion, specifically Islam, is being used as a very dangerous weapon against us.
Symbolic desecration of the Koran, however, will not stop muslims from believing in it. If anything, it will merely strengthen the hold their deceivers have over them. It is the men who are using Islam as a tool of hatred that must be destroyed, along with those that are too fanatical to ever allow their eyes to be opened, if we are to win this war.

Well, I agree with you largely on that, except if and when all out war happens, it's time to erradicate it once and for all.
The Brits had the perfect opportunity when they defeated the Ottoman empire, but because they had fogotten what Islam was,(and it was badly corrupted at the time as well) they never took advantage.
Before that time comes, And I truley hope it doesn't, opening eyes and educating people about what Islam really is, what the Koran and Muhammad really says will wake a few people up, convert a few muslims who are unaware of what this "scripture" really is.
My fears are the same as yours. I am saddened that I am finding myself on the defensive in this thread, when the essence of my opinions are largely in agreement with those I am debating. I fully believe that Islam as it is preached by jihadists is the enemy. I agree that we must destroy them or they will never stop.
The only thing I said that drew criticism was that I didn't see any logical value in further alienating those I would hope could be rescued from the deception that is Islam by provoking them with a symbolic desecration of the Koran.

Further, you have nothing to draw your morality from, except that which was passed down to you from the Christian era. It has influenced you to your very core, you just haven't realized it.
When paganizm ruled, the world was a crappy place, and it's heading that way again because morality becomes a matter of opinion. Even today, in places like China where pagans rule, child sex slavery goes on, children as young as 3 years old!

There's endless videos of 'allahu akbar' yelled out when heads are chopped off or prisoners are being executed.
"Allahu Akbar" is called the prayer of fear. it's what Muhammad called out when he lead a massacure on villages. Rape, pillage, plunder slaughter were the "allah aproved" rewards. at the end of the day, the men were slaughtered, child slaves taken along with the women as sex slaves, booty divided up.
Islam is a good religion if you are a murderous bandit.
Everything proclaimed by Muhammad is still valid and legal today in Islam, slavery included.

It looked to me and others that you were validating and defending the Koran as a legitamite "holy book". That's why you find yourelf on the defensive. Even this comment that I'm responding to hints that you think there is a better way to teach Islam, that these jihadists are somehow teaching a corrupt version. They are not.
I used to think that as well. Years of study have opened my eyes. I know more about Islam than most Muslims. These Jihadists or fundamentalists are practicing Islam exactly how it is intended to be.

Well, let's see...muslims killed 16 other muslims at the report of the flushing of 1 quran. There are something like a billion muslims. Guess it's going to take quite a few qurans to get muslims to wipe themselves out, but I'll chip in for a few. And actually, we don't even have to really buy or destroy them, all we have to do is let the fake media claim we've done so. So all we need is a about 62.5 million more fake news reports and Islam will be wiped off the face of the earth.
