My child was sick and stayed home, and I forgot to call in the excuse. Explaining this to the vice principal didn't change his mind about the detention.
The zero tolerance one size fits all lazy thinking that the man exhibited was disgusting and occurs way too often today's world.
As a retired teacher of 34 years, I can attest to the
fact that there have to be a thousand different examples of stupidity re administrative decisions and school
"infractions."
Here's one more:
Our granddaughter signed up for a school sponsored field
trip to France over the Spring Break. It was necessary that the chaperoning teacher arrange for the tour group
to leave on the morning of the last day of the school session. The kids were "docked" a day of school time
and my granddaughter lost her standing of "perfect
attendance" because of the idiocy of the Principal/Supt.
On honors day, she was NOT given her award. I personally
told the Supt to shove that award very high in his rectal
regions and guard it since it meant so much more to him
than it did to our family.
