I assume Tom writes his own speeches? Not only is he able to correctly assess a situation and propose a solution, he is gifted with the ability to convey his message. He is eloquent and inspiring.

I'm in awe of him.

;-)

I discovered that there are moments in the life of a Democracy when people put aside their own pursuits and focus very intensely on the issues at hand. The recall was one of those rare elections when the people were totally completely focused on the future of California.

He's right. nearly the entire state got behind this!

In those moments, advertising means nothing. Political parties mean less than nothing.

Exactly!

And when they do that, their judgment is exceedingly good. In 2003, the result was the historic recall of a governor – in a record turnout election. In that election, the Republican candidates for governor received a combined 62 percent of the vote – literally two votes for every vote cast for the Democrats.

2 to 1 in todays terms are overwhelming!

And – I might add – by the end of that campaign, according to every published poll from the Field to Gallup to the Los Angeles Times, the most conservative candidate (that was me, by the way) had the HIGHEST approval ratings and the most liberal candidate (Peter Camejo, of the Green Party) had the LOWEST approval ratings.

Good evidence that California can do it.

I don’t say this to brag (all right, I do), but also to illustrate that the people of California – when they are paying attention to the debate and actually listening to the candidates – agree with us in overwhelming numbers.

All his points in the article were right on the mark.

Just as the United Airline and steel industry folks got their pensions slashed, there will come a day when I and my children will vote to lower these pensions.

Not only do away with king sized, public servant pensions, completely get rid of public unions. They are corrupt to the bone, and they are consuming the tax payers..

"So what do we do? The first thing we do is EVERYTHING WE CAN to support Governor Schwarzenegger’s initiatives. I believe they are the most important public policy initiatives since Proposition 13 – not just because of the policies they enact, but because they have become a defining struggle between the public employee unions and the people of California"

Tom's a team player and he is right.

Senate Floor Speech in Opposition to SB 60 - Illegal Alien Driver Licenses
Senator Tom McClintock - June 2, 2005

Mr. President:

Let’s make one thing very clear from the outset. The new federal law DOES NOT require states to give driving-only driver’s licenses to foreign nationals illegally in this country. The new federal law DOES NOT in any way sanction states that do not give driving-only driver’s licenses to foreign nationals illegally in this country.

This bill does many other things that are NOT required by federal law:

California currently requires every applicant for a driver’s license to prove they are legally in this country. THIS BILL REPEALS THAT LAW.

California currently makes it a misdemeanor to assist an illegal alien in obtaining a driver’s license. THIS BILL REPEALS THAT LAW.

Not only are these provisions NOT required by federal law, they are a radical departure from state law.

So what is the point of this bill? California already recognizes a valid foreign driver’s license as proof of competence to operate a motor vehicle in this state. So it is not about training.

Automobile insurance is already available to any foreign national travelling in the United States. In fact, if I were to travel to Mexico as a foreign national, I would be subject to severe requirements for automobile insurance. If the author were really concerned about this issue, he would be proposing reciprocal requirements for Mexican nationals travelling in the United States.

So here is the fine point of it. The purpose of this measure and its predecessors is to make a very strong statement that it is the official policy of this state to ignore our nation’s immigration laws.

Those laws require a foreign national illegally in the United States to be deported. There is nothing radical or unusual about this. Every other nation in the world has immigration laws. The difference is that every other nation in the world enforces them.

By extending official state documents to illegal aliens, we are accommodating them in their violation of federal immigration law. We are adopting an official policy that this state will simply turn a blind eye to violations of those laws.

If it comes to that, we might as well repeal our immigration laws as meaningless vestiges of bygone days when this nation actually valued its sovereignty and independence.

>>I'm in awe of him.

He definitely stands out in a Sacramento crowd, doesn't he?
Actually, I think he stands out in any crowd.
He won me over a little over 2 years ago from his radio appearances.

'08 material? Great compendium of solutions. Makes me want to move back to CA and get busy.

American's have honorably crossed this planet to make things right. Those that ran away from their duty were neither respected or wanted. Retreating in the face of problems, causes problems to spread. Fires left to burn, only spread.

If there's a special election, we're all going to have set aside our differences to defeat the public employees unions and the Democrats who live in dread of them. Yes, I know Arnold's a RINO and I think his reforms don't go as far as I would like but I also know the Democrats hate them because it would be the beginning of better and greater things to follow. Tom is proud to be counted in our Governor's company and the battle as been joined. Californians need to ask themselves if they want more of the Big Government status-quo. By which I mean politicians owned by unions as opposed to representing the public; budgets in which Sacramento spends more than it receives, and legislators who chose the voters to keep them in office. Hey, its been a wonderful racket for decades but we can no longer afford it. Now let's roll!!!

That's what I was thinking !!!

He's young - let him be Lt Gov and then Gov and then he will be the ideal presidential candidate. Well principled and well seasoned in governing.

I'm beginning to feel the same way.

Arnold is not my favorite - but if we have to take a bunch of tiny steps to accomplish these goals .. they that's the way we'll do it. You're right .. it's time to put our differences aside and work for the good of CA.

Thanks for the ping.

Unlike many Republicans, Tom McClintock understands and believes in the tenets of the US Constitution and the agenda of the modern conservative movement in America today. Even after 40 years of Democrat liberalism and bureaucratic Republicanism, it's still possible to defend the people and limit government at the same time.
