A year on, many still mourn for Reagan

A year has passed since former President Ronald Reagan died, leaving America to ponder both the man and his legacy. But Mr. Reagan has not faded into the historical shadows, and the nation's heart is still with him.
"I am, as I speak, on my way to my father's grave," said Michael Reagan, the president's elder son, speaking by cell phone, his words punctuated by the sounds of a California highway. "And you know, in the past year I've found out anew that people still love my dad -- because he loved them."
The younger Reagan was intent on spending some private time Friday at the hilltop burial site of his father, located on the rolling grounds of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, some 45 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
Few can fault a son seeking some quiet solace beforehand. But today belongs to the public.
The library is expecting a sizable crowd for a commemorative ceremony that will mark the exact moment of Mr. Reagan's passing -- 1:05 p.m., June 5, 2004 -- at the age of 93. It prompted a week's worth of formal recognitions, intense press coverage and a public sense that an era had passed.
Nancy Reagan will not attend the events today. The president's wife of 52 years will "spend the day quietly, and with family," library spokeswoman Melissa Giller said.
Mr. Reagan had some thoughts about how he wanted to be remembered. "Whatever else history says about me when I'm gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence, rather than your doubts," Mr. Reagan told the nation in 1992....

I'm trying to find articles from around the time of the 1980 election. Must have been an exciting time. Does anybody has any links to such archived articles/video?
A true GIANT !
"America is too great for small dreams"- Reagan
"There is nothing wrong with America that Americans can't fix"- Reagan
"All great change in America begins at the dinner table"- Reagan
"America's best days lie ahead. You ain't seen nothing yet"- Reagan
How can someone forget? Thank you for everything Gipper
ROCKNE:
Well, boys ... I haven't a thing to say.
Played a great game...all of you. Great game.
(He tries to smile.)
I guess we just can't expect to win em all.
(Rockne pauses and says quietly.)
I'm going to tell you something I've kept to myself for years --
None of you ever knew George Gipp.
It was long before your time.
But you know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame...
(There is gentle, faraway look in his eyes as he recalls the boy's words.)
And the last thing he said to me -- "Rock," he said -
"sometime, when the team is up against it -- and the
breaks are beating the boys -- tell them to go out there
with all they got and win just one for the Gipper...
(Knute's eyes become misty and his voice is unsteady as he finishes.)
I don't know where I'll be then, Rock", he said - "but
I'll know about it - and I'll be happy."
There is a hushed stillness as Rockne and the crowd of boys look at each other. In the midst of this tense silence, Rockne quietly says "Alright," to the men beside him, and his chair is wheeled slowly out of the dressing room.
PLAYER # 12
Well, what are we waiting for?
With a single roar, the players throw off their blankets and rush through the doorway.

And he did.

I hope that everybody has a goodly supply of Reagan postage stamps (and that everybody is holding out for a new $20 bill)...
Once Reagan was sworn in it was exciting. Before that it was a time of dark clouds above every silver lining with Carter as president. Also, Reagan was being soundly trashed by the meadia and the elites, but the American people knew better.

RONALD REAGAN was as much a Soldier during the Cold War fighting for the Freedom of others as we who were standing on the Front Lines.
RONALD REAGAN's Washington, D.C. Funeral Service ended with the
inspiring "WE WERE SOLDIERS" Hymn:
'The MANSIONS of the LORD'

Text: RANDALL WALLACE
Music: NICK GLENNIE-SMITH
To fallen soldiers, let us sing,
Where no rockets fly or bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
To the Mansions of the Lord.
No more bleeding, no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night,
Just divine embrace, eternal light
In the Mansions of the Lord.
Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard though the angels sleep
All through the ages safely keep
The Mansions of the Lord.

I almost didn't post this thread because the title was lousy. The Gipper would have never wanted us to mourn his passing.
He was too upbeat for that.
What was it he said one time about not coming to his gravesite, because he wouldn't be there.
Heck,my guess is,he's off somewhere chasing a pony, and laughing all the way.
