I was told in another thread that "real" Republicans support Bush's position on immigration. In response, I did a google search on immigration polls and found that the numbers against immigration are even more overwhelming than I thought:
http://www.npg.org/factsheets/imm_americans_spoken.html
65% of voters favor stopping all immigration into the U.S. during the war on terrorism. (Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll, October 31-November 1, 2001)
92% of voters favor imposing stricter immigration and border crossing polices. (Fox News poll, September 19-20, 2001)
77% think the government is not doing enough to control the border and to screen people allowed into the country. (Zogby International, September 15-16, 2001)
85% strongly/somewhat agree that enforcement of immigration laws and the border has been too lax and has made it easier for the terrorists to enter. (Zogby International, September 15-16, 2001)
72% think that a dramatic increase in resources devoted to border control and enforcement of immigration laws would help reduce the chances of future terrorist attacks. (Zogby International, September 15-16, 2001)
Six in ten Americans support reducing legal immigration levels. (CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, October 2001)
77% of respondents in a CNN poll opposed granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. (CNN, July 2001)
53% of Americans said the number of legal immigrants allowed into the U.S. should be decreased. Only 6% wanted to see it increased. (Wirthlin Worldwide, June 1997)
72% of Americans think immigration should be reduced, according to a Wall St. Journal/NBC December 1996 poll.
A Roper poll in January 1996 found that 83% of Americans favor a lower immigration level. 70% favor restricting immigration to less than 300,000 new immigrants a year (including 70% of Republicans, 73% of African-Americans, and 52% of Hispanics). Most want even larger cuts: 54% favor an immigration level of below 100,000 a year. 20% support no immigration at all.
The same Roper poll found that a large majority (75%) supports strong laws to identify and deport illegal immigrants. Only 10% disagree with strict laws against the removal of illegal immigrants. The strongest supporters of tough measures against illegal immigrants are self-styled political moderates (78%), strongly religious (76%), whites (77%), Protestants (82%), and Midwesterners (85%). 76% of Democrats, 76% of Republicans, 78% of self-described middle-of-the-roaders, and 60% of Hispanics (English-speaking) also support tough laws against illegal immigrants.
52% of all Americans favor a five-year ban on all legal and illegal immigration to the U.S., including 54% of all Republicans and 48% of all Democrats. (Wall St. Journal/NBC, March 1996)
This is the best news I've read on immigration in a long time. As long as these numbers hold up, I can't help thinking that our politicians will start to listen.
I can't help thinking that our politicians will start to listen.
If they don't time to send them packing.
I've been told just the opposite. Repeatedly.
I guess there is no one "real" Republican point of view on this, only the points of view of many real people.
ping
It's going to get interesting. Will the "Two-Party Cartel" listen to their constituents or to the elites that own them. We need to be more aggresive. If not they will play the status quo.
I see you're new to FR, I wouldn't be alarmed by those whose only rebuttal is name-calling.
The numbers don't lie and in CA alone it's costing us NINE BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR to allow illegals to stay here.
Now if any of these people who say you are not a "real" Republican because you don't support GWB on this issue want to pony up with that NINE BILLION we will be glad to tell them where they can send the check!
we won't be holding our collective breaths! LOL
but the last time I checked it was the sworn duty of the POTUS to enforce the laws of this country...
I suggest W start doing just that!
Secure the borders and deport the illegals, Mr. President!
Ike did it, so can you!
WE THE PEOPLE must become more involved...
Ike had steel cajones.
1. Do you feel like illegal aliens who have jobs should:
a. Be rounded up and shot.
b. Packed like cattle into railroad cars the way the Nazis transported the Jews to concentration camps and deported
c. Given legal guest-worker status and allowed to contribute to the economy
I have somewhat exaggerated a and b but not by too much. Note that the best alternative which is to enforce our laws against employing them so that when they realize there is no work they self-deport is not offered as an option.
Expect these push polls to be widely cited by the open border types. We have seen a certain amount of it already from certain FR members.
Conservatives don't.
Questions like that are an insult to America, and the slimy pollsters should be told so.
Oh, they will. WHEN AND IF they start losing elections. I'm just waiting for the Los Angeles radio talk team of John and Ken at KFI AM640 to target some politicos next year, the way they targeted Congressman David Dryer last year. They got a late start with this idea in that election but managed to trim Dryer's victory margin significantly. I can't wait to see what they can do with a full election cycle.
John and Ken are great - they've been on this issue for many years and are finally getting the recognition they deserve.
I guess I gave up my 'real Republican' status when I scraped the 'W' stickers off my car and starting using my 'Security Moms 4 Bush' T-shirt as a car rag after the President called the Minutemen 'vigilantes'. And I won't be voting for another Republican again until they get their act on illegal immigration together!
These numbers are good, but they are a little dated (the newest is 3.5 years old).
Yet why are the politicians so adore illegal aliens, even though it will cost them votes? Are they blackmailed or bribed? Or do they have an agenda and have infiltrated our government, perhaps sleeper agents?
I've come to the conclusion that the powers that be have decided to scrap the US and it's annoying Constitution and merge us all into one big happy Guatemalan Hemisphere, where we will be ruled Soviet style, by an unelected council of elites. All the former nations will get one vote, and the council will rule as it pleases.
If they hurry, they can get the job mostly done before the next election. Soon they won't have to worry about what the voters think anymore.
We have three to five years left at best.
I also recommend what I do: send every prepaid donation envelope back to them with a message that they're not getting another nickel -- and possibly another vote -- until this issue is addressed.
It can be found in finding serious competition and helping fund their campaigns (yes even though they lose the first time but liberals and communists never settle for the near, they set their sights on the long term) and continue to contact their offices by letters and faxes that cannot be ignored and pretended away, telling them of your displeasure with them saying one thing and doing another, once in DC.
Any real Republican who agrees with Bush's open borders policies is a greedy anti-American corporation person. They support Bush because they know wages will be brought down to five dollars an hour, with no benefits, and the idiots believe that will be good for them and the country.
Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!
Be Ever Vigilant!
Minutemen Patriots ~ Bump!
Good ping. Thanks.
