Judge Grants Hinckley Overnight Visits

WASHINGTON — Presidential assailant John Hinckley will be allowed periodic overnight visits with his parents in the Washington area until a court decides whether to grant his request for longer out-of-town trips, a federal judge ruled Monday.

Hinckley, who was acquitted by reason of insanity in the 1981 shooting of President Reagan, is seeking permission for six overnight stays with his parents at their home in Virginia. The first would last two nights, increasing one night each time to seven nights for the sixth.

Why should Hinckley's quality of life or lack thereof matter one whit? He forfeited his right to quality of life when he attempted to assassinate a U.S. President. Such a person deserves no second act in this life.

Not to defend Hinkley, but IF, and I mean IF, he was truly insane, then I have no problem letting him out for visits with his parents if he has been deemed well by his doctors.
