Jerry Colangelo is a native of the Chicago area. Now we know where he learned his trade.
After today's ruling on states' rights, my guess is that the Supremes are going to rule that all disputed private property has to be quitclaimed to the RIAA.
The property owner can price his property as he chooses for whatever reasons he chooses. You can meet the price or not, and that IS reasonable regardless of your plans. That's freedom, that's property rights and that's Just.
Liked what you wrote. Thought I'd repost it.
And how would you have felt if, having bought it for the 750, the government had turned around and condemed it and paid you what you admit it was worth - 90 - and then sold it to me for that so that I could develop condos there?
If you have not been reading, I have condemned eminent domain several times on here
Of course, everybody misses that, because I just happened to say something in probably not the best syntax
I have stated before and will state again, eminent domain, is dirty pool, it is something that the Richard Scrushy's of the world salivate.
I'm not Richard Scrushy, everything I have ever done in business has been on the up and up, and I have never forced anyone to do anything against their will, and I don't believe government should either.
I reckon you may have a speech impediment, but don't try to tell me I ain't been reading you right.
I checked out your profile, the most amazing thing there is the details you won't provide.
You have been here for a long time, but no one knows who the hell you are, or what side you come down on!
Only thing I can say is that if you are "Republican", I must be something else.
Ok, you want information here it is
I'm from Mobile, Alabama, and I am what is refered to as old Mobile. I grew up affluent, and I worked hard, and as such, now I have more money than my parents ever had. To be honest, money and the accumulation of has been the primary motivation in my life for the last 15 years, so when I say it's wierd the guy wouldn't sell, it's because I would have sold in a heartbeat.
I belong to several Mardi Gras societies, and I have a beach house in Point Clear. I have a couple of boats, I like to fish, hunt, and I've been married to the same wonderful woman for 19 years. When I was younger, I was active in Sons of Confederate Veterans, but as of late, I've sort of dropped out of commission.
And like every other upstanding Mobile citizen, I'm a member of the Mobile County Republican Party, and I do vote.
But to be honest, I'm a Country Club Republican, and the main reason I like Bush is because he gave out that tax cut, I just wish he'd implement a flat tax of some kind, like 20% or less, and cut off needless programs like welfare.
Need to know anymore?
Nope.
Sure do need to know more, because You sure don't seem to have a clue about where I come from.
Profit is not My thing, I am here for the freedom thing.
Maybe "the guy wouldn't sell" because you don't have a clue about the true value of anything.
You can pretend to be "Old Mobile", but your act won't hold water.
Worst Damned Cussword I ever heard My Granny say was "Carpetbagger".
Tell Us just what else You would have "sold in a heartbeat"?
I don't suspect you have ever loved anything, beyond the greenbacks in your wallet!
I am not for sale, for any amount
A Carpetbagger was a yankee who came down to the South in the 1860s to rip us off.
A Scalawag is someone like Bromberg, who betrayed the South for temporal yankee power.
And there are things I wouldn't sell, but the truth is, the things I wouldn't sell, for example, a pocketwatch that has been passed down for 5 generations.
And I have a question, what is so wrong with making money, that's part of the American dream.
I was involved in a now defunct project, we wanted to acquire some worthless swampland, because we had this vision of transforming it into a major condo complex. I personally was gonna net 1.3 mil off the project, but we were negotiating with the guy. <<
You were going to get 1.3 million, personally acquiring "worthless" property.
That's a hard sell.
>>His property all together, worth no more than 90 grand. But we got all the way up to 750 grand, that was the final offer, and he still kept stonewalling, giving us some stuff about how this had been his dream.<<
It was his property and his dream. You are asking him how much to dash his dream. As someone that is attempting to broke a deal (my assumption), someone that actually does not add real content, you were going to get 1.3 million. Why did you not offer him 1.3 million for his property?
If the brokers make more than the content holders...there is a bunch wrong here.
You lost. That's business. He lost, life's tough. But to enforce low prices on PROPERTY holders...that's confiscation.
I'm thinking of a woman that had to sell her property in Washington, that had been held for three generations...HAD TO SELL..to put in a track.
EVIL.

Thanks for the ping!
Government has never used eminent domain to take property from one owner and give it to a developer for the so-called public interest?
What garbage. Never heard of the Poletown decision, right?
If you're in real estate development, I'm the king of England.
Heck they can put twelve condos on his lot, he hasn't mowed his lawn in over a week, might as well take it now.
That is the proper thing to do. Only Commies go running to the local government.
Libertarian Ping!
You'd be surprised
I'm in the real estate industry (not selling tract houses either) so, you have to deal with these issues all the time
There is alot of property that is currently rundown, but which has potential.
"I personally distaste eminent domain, and thats why I always try and win over potential sellers with sugar."
Thanks for the clarification. Please feel free to disregard my other questions.
Thankfully, It doesn't matter what you think. And private property isn't judged by it's "value to society".
Rights are what this country is about, not some "vision of the annointed".
It was reasonable to him. Your position is unreasonable.
