AFA suspends Ford boycott for six months

Following a meeting with a group of Ford dealers on June 5, AFA has suspended its boycott of Ford Motor Company until December 1, 2005. In the meeting, the dealers asked for time to see if the concerns raised by AFA in their boycott announcement could be addressed by them in cooperation with officials from Ford Motor Company.

AFA felt that the dealers were making a good faith effort and agreed to accept their request. Therefore, the suspension request was accepted by AFA. During the remaining period AFA will work with the dealers in attempting to resolve our differences.

We urge those supporting the boycott to disregard the boycott until December 1, 2005.

On or about December 1 we will notify our supporters as to status of the boycott.

Thanks to all who contacted their local dealers. Your involvement made a difference!

This came to me as an email, the URL at the heading is for the AFA site, but nothing on that site currently refers to either the boycott or the suspension. I am only posting the contents of the email as a FYI for anyone who might be observing the suspended boycott.

It would be helpful to know who the heck AFA is.

I've known of the AFA for quite some time now and been largely impressed by the organization. In my opinion the Ford boycott would have been (and perhaps could be) made stronger had they done the research to recommend a "God, Country, and Apple-Pie Family" luvin' alternative to Ford. Somebody point me in the direction of the most grass-roots, God-fearin', conservative automotive corporation out there -- I'm about ready to trade in the minivan and care enough to do it right.

Mission Statement

The American Family Association exists to motivate and equip citizens to change the culture to reflect Biblical truth.

Philosophical Statement

The American Family Association believes that God has communicated absolute truth to man through the Bible, and that all men everywhere at all times are subject to the authority of God's Word. Therefore, a culture based on Biblical truth best serves the well-being of our country, in accordance with the vision of our founding fathers.

They are folks who want our government to be a bible based one. That quote is from their website.

these folks are the 'religion as government' folks.
fwiw.

Also from their website :

Has AFA Made an Impact?

There just isn't a heckuva a lot they've worked for that I've disagreed with. It looks to me like their real beef is with the media and performing arts. Decency laws used to be enforced in this country ... maybe they will be again ...

I think that if you read that statement correctly you will see that "those folks" want an American culture based on biblical principles, not the government itself.

Although, they would probably agree with me that it would be a wonderful thing if our government operated on biblical principles instead of the unbiblical corruption, graft, and lying that pervades almost every aspect of it now.

these folks are the 'religion as government' folks.

Not quite. They are the " decency and morality IN government" folks. AFAIK they have never once advocated making religion a part of any local, state, or federal government. Again, they would probably agree with me that it would be a wonderful thing if all our elected and appointed government offices were filled with God-fearing Christian men and women instead of just the White House and a relative handful of people in Congress and on the bench.

Doesn't exist. Even "Amurcan" cars are produced largely from foreign components these days, while Toyota and Honda produce cars here in the USA.

Despite your protestations to the contrary.
It can mean nothing else than what it says.

You make a distinction that is without a difference when you try to change the focus to being only the 'culture' they are trying to govern... because they believe the founders intended for this to be a biblical Christian nation... if words like the ones above from their website mean anything.

Religion in government has a lot of support these days from a lot of the newer freepers.
Don't count on it from all of us however. Some of us want less government, in EVERY area of our lives. Including government posing in the role of morality police.

It does means what it says, and what it says is not a call for a theocratic government as you seem to believe.

You are entitled to your opinion of the organization, but you can't change the meaning of it's statement to accommodate your biased opinion. Do you deny that the principles of justice, honesty, personal integrity, morality, etc, that are embodied in the "Biblical truth" referred to in the AFA statement are "according to the vision of the founding fathers"? If so, then we hold radically different views of the founders' character, intentions, and vision for their new nation.

right.
"it's NOT a theocratic vision of our nation and culture that they are pushing, it's not, it's not!" (while stamping the feet.) ROFL.

FWIW, I never introduced the word 'theocratic' in discussing their cultural-politico philosophy as presented in their literature or on line.... you did.

Thanks for making the point FOR me by using a more proper word for their 'vision' of what our nation, culture and government SHOULD be...

Religion in government... or a moral police theocracy, take your pick. Regardless of semantics, some folks want it. Some folks don't.

Count me as being in the latter group.

Your opinion, nothing more. I have a different opinion, and it's worth exactly the same as yours in the overall scheme of things. IOW very little.
