Casting Call for the 'Anti-Arnold'
LA Times ^ | June 8, 2005 | ANDRÉS MARTINEZ:

Posted on 06/08/2005 9:33:25 AM PDT by echoBoomer

Ronald Reagan. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Fred Thompson. Sonny Bono. That guy on the Love Boat. It drives Democrats batty that so many Hollywood luminaries, who are supposed to be their people, have gone on to become successful Republican politicians.

For California Democrats, it's especially galling to face a celebrity deficit when taking on Arnold, which is why many party activists wish one of their own Hollywood heavyweights would run for governor in 2006. Rob Reiner is mentioned as a possible white knight, and Warren Beatty can't give a speech without being asked to put up or shut up, or being called a "crackpot" by a spokesman for that lifetime serious politician, Dr. Schwarzenegger. But Democrats are barking up the wrong tree in their search for the anti-Arnold of 2006. The power of celebrity to capture an audience is undeniable, but a star from the left wouldn't conjure up Reagan- or Arnold-like magic. No, the Democratic equivalent of a GOP movie star candidate is a celebrity candidate from the business world.

It's all about casting against type. What gives Hollywood GOP politicos their aura of contrarian independence isn't so much that they are rich movie stars new to politics. It's the fact that they have descended from behind that sign on those leftist hills, their Republican faith miraculously intact.

A Democratic movie star in politics wouldn't have that same aura of independence, but a big-name CEO as the Democratic standard-bearer would. He or she would have emerged, their faith in the Democratic creed intact, from a world where people are supposed to be Republican...

Reiner and Beatty? Meathead and a lothario that puts even Wilt Chamberlain to shame? That's the best they can do? The Governator would bury them.

The problem is that the Democrat celebrities would all be limp-wristed men and women in very comfortable shoes...

He exists. His name is Senator John Corzine, and he even has his own Rob Reiner beard.

The have become tlike the Euros: All surface and hype, yet no substance or depth. DO they really think that Arnold was justa bout electing a movie star. Have they forgetten Ronnie.

Have they always been like this and I am only now just starting to notice, or are they sinking further.

I have been a Dem watcher for more than 30 years and thought I had seen everything, but the last few years have even given me pause.

True...like "Miss Jane" from The Beverly Hillibillies. She ran for some office.

Personally I would like to see some of these big-name celebs be bold enough to run for office, but they must realize their limitations.

Could you imagine an idiot like Ted Danson in a debate with Sean Hannity?

It is something to watch. I remember first hearing about Karl Rove back in '99 or early '00 when W was gearing up and/or announcing. The part I recall was that Rove and W had destroyed the 'rat party in Texas and it was Rove's goal to do that nationally. I wish I could find the source. In any event, the 'rat party has not fared well since then. *big effin' smile creasing face*

So it is not just me? Honestly, I just cannot tell anymore. It is a though the country has gone insane.

We are in a global war against Islamisists and we are worries about "Koran Abuse."

Heaven help us.

Actually, it is the left that has gone insane. They cannot stand being marginalized. Nor can the leftstream presstitutes who no longer dictate the mindset of the body politic thanks to New Media, i.e. talk radio, the 'net and Fox News. The left's efforts to Vietnamize Iraq is all they got. Unfortunately, they have had some success, but not that of the past. The good news: it is only going to get worse for them. Seriesly worser. Hehehehe.....

Where is that Carly Fiorina from. She could do to California what she did to Hewlitt Packard.
