Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn and Kyl are co-sponsoring a bill mandating a five billion dollar program that would double the size of the Border Patrol over the next five years, adding 10,000 agents.

A Freaking chainlink fence with razor wire and a 220 amp charge wont cost $500 million dollars even if it did it would be well worth it!

$500 million is but a mere drop in the bucket compared to the tens of BILLIONS in lost tax revenue each year to THE UNDERGROUND ECONOMY.

Peanuts.

Doubling the size is not enough, and Kyl knows this.

Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn and Kyl are co-sponsoring a bill mandating a five billion dollar program that would double the size of the Border Patrol over the next five years, adding 10,000 agents.

Is this in addition to the 10,000 agents that was part of the National Intelligence Reform Act of 2004, or are they just adding back in 10,000 agents because Bush's proposed 2006 budget only asked for 210 agents?

February 9, 2005 -- Officially approved by Bush on Dec. 17 [2004], the National Intelligence Reform Act included the requirement to add 10,000 border patrol agents in the five years beginning with 2006. ... But Bush's proposed 2006 budget, revealed Monday, funds only 210 new border agents.

I love it. John Cornyn is our best hope for president in '08. 100% conservative by ACU.

This can't be done.
Just ask Mr. Bonner ICE/BP senior senor chief dude.
A short time ago, Bonner moaned and groaned when he thought he was getting 2000 (not 10000) over a similiar period.
Bonner said such a large number was rediculous as the BP could not train and absorb such additional staff...
It's a good thing Mr. Bonner was not in charge when Pearl Harbor happened and the US military went from about zero to millions overnight.
If anyone wants to see the news report on this, don't yell or call me liar, liar--just ask nicely and I'll start looking for it.

So who were those guys in the Phillipines and on those Navy ships??? The military didnt go from zero to millions. the end result was millions but there were already nearly a million with the uniform on to begin with....

My point was how quick the millions in the WW2 military grew, compared to Bonner's reluctance over 2,000 or 3,000 heads. I would think readers would probably understand the point and that "zerO" was used just for illustration. If you think the actual number is important to the discussion, you should probably post it.

"Washington's answer to every problem - Throw money - LOTS and LOTS of money . ."

You are so right! Nothing will stop the tide of illegals until we take away their incentive for risking breaking the law. We give them jobs, free health care, social security, citizenship for their newborns and we ignore that they are committing a crime. Why aren't we talking about this instead of spending more money?

In my reading the Kyl/Cornyn amnesty plan is even more liberal than Bush's. I've had several communications with his office and his staff is as mealy mouthed as any RINO's so it's hard to tell.

I respect him on other issues but on illegals he's playing the cheap labor game.
