Timely care a basic right

The Supreme Court has handed down a landmark ruling that invalidates Quebec's ban on private health insurance and delivers a caustic critique of the shortcomings of Canada's public health system.

The court ruled that it is unconstitutional to ban private insurance where the public system fails to provide reasonable service.

In the judgment, Justice Marie Deschamps wrote that "the evidence on the experience of other Western democracies with public health-care systems that permit access to private health insurance is connected to maintaining quality public health care. It does not appear that private participation leads to the eventual demise of public health care."

The ruling is seen as a warning to governments not to let waiting lists get out of hand.

Wow, I hadn't realized that the canadian socialists banned private healthcare. No wonder canadians who needed help quick were coming across the border to get it.

State-supplied health care makes as much sense as state-supplied food.

I agree. But you think this will get much play in the liberal media? I doubt it.

Hey!
State-supplied food worked 'just fine' in the USSR and especially the Ukraine.
Why only 6-7 Million died during the famine of the 1932-33.
(but somehow the NY Times 'forgot' to report it)

:-)

I've always wondered about that..... Hillary and Kerry, and others who want to push socialized healthcare.

It's not a secret that canadians have been coming across the border in certain circumstances in order to access our healthcare because they needed something done NOW.

So let's say for the sake of argument that Kerry or Hillary succeeded in implementing a socialized healthcare system.....

Would that mean that they had the blood of dead canadians on their hands?
