Well if you can't install on D then all the easy solutions will not work and I am sure you are in good hands with proudVet. I will be away from my computer for a few hours, and will help if you still need help. But I've still got my fingers crossed that installing on D (or a cleaned up C) will work.
I suggest you go to HP's web site and download the latest install set and drivers for your device. I've gotten trashed-as-shipped install sets on several HP products I've purchased.
