"As a gov't auditor myself... if he is using legislated appropriated funds other than what was intended, he is in violation of the law."
Interesting. Can you stop those guys from buying $600 hammers?
As a gov''t auditor, you should be able to find out where he is getting the funds. Would be interesting to know, but it looks at first blush that they are approprated to him for this work. If not, I am sure the voters in the county can get that corrected. His MASH units are well liked around here.
Only if the procurement laws are changed.
I'd have to look at the county budget.
The prisoners aren't in the tents to make way for the dogs, the prisoners were already in tents.
I'd bet that the liberals wanted Joe to release prisoners because his jail was "overcrowded", so he moved them into large spacious tents, problem solved!
He couldn't have some prisoners in air conditioned comfort and some in tents, so he moved all prisoners to the tents. This left Joe with unused jail cells, a government resource, which he is now putting to good use.
And if Sheriff Joe is in technical violation, the end result of your investigation would be to move the dogs and cats out and leave the jail cells empty.
No Thanks.
Gee... then you shouldn't be upset when Janet does it.
according to the county supervisor... he is doing what you said... using resources and fund designated by law for prisoners, to house dogs.
and he of course, made a very point on his radio interview/spot/advertisment/press conference, of saying he displaced a very specific group of prisoners out, to make room for the dogs.
In other words, he sounds as if he is proudly flaunting this potential misuse of resources... which he seems to think as county sherriff, is within his legal perview. Maybe it is. I don't know, but it sounded a little screwy to me, at least in the way he is conducting his 'public relations' campaign.
The republican party withdrew support from him last election for some reason. I wonder what it is?
You are free to move down here and try to convince us to change our ways any time you would like
1) The supervisor quoted didn't specify any facts and tends to shoot from the hip.
2) The jail was already vacated because of plumbing problems. No one was displaced.
3) The story is 'bent'... so what else is new?
Hey,I just had a"Brainstorm"!Let's go ahead and close Gitmo.Send the detainees to Sherrif Joe.He'll get em' SINGING!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just ran outside and did a quick search. I didn't see anyone goosestepping. I'll check again and let you know if I find anyone doing that. It would be a first, I have never seen that here.
The sheriff SAID he specifically vacated the area of humans to make room for the dogs.
Now YOU say the plumbing was actually bad in that area and that's why he did it. Of coure, by now you realize that he said it on a news report 'recording' of his very own voice.
Should folks believe YOU or Joe's own words?
"The sheriff SAID he specifically vacated the area of humans to make room for the dogs. "
From the Sheriff Department site:
http://www.mcso.org/submenu.asp?file=Mash
"The first shelter opened by Sheriff Arpaio is in the First Avenue Jail, located at First Avenue and Madison Street, Phoenix, Arizona. This 30-year-old jail previously held inmates, but was closed for repairs to plumbing in December 1999. Though no longer suitable for housing inmates, the jail looks like paradise to the four-footed victims now housed and recovering there. "
He announced it as a new item at the top of the hour this week. it wasn't related to plumbing, nor was it the old tent city stuff from years ago... or as a result of plumbing.
Maybe now he has folks backpeddling from it, because it is going to be a problem. I know I would if I had misappropriated county funds as is being alleged.
He may in fact, be in trouble for going too far in his "look at me, I treat dogs better than NON convicted citizens I am holding in my jail..." campaign.
Even good guys can go too far at times... and get in trouble.
Arpaio is an ass, a camera chasing stunt performing crook. I like how he got off on his last car accident where he hit the gas instead of the brake, and blamed it on his car.
The guy is bad.
For more info about this crook, go to www.arpaio.com, chock full of stories about this idiot, from people that work with him.
