I voted "Expanded" as I'd personally like to see it encompass organizations that can demonstrably be proven as engaging in seditious and/or harmful behaviour to the country. Freedom of the press and speech is one thing, but if it fans the flames of our enemies and/or results in harm to our troops or civilians, some form of penalty should ensue. Like yelling "FIRE!" in a crowded theatre. IMHO

I voted "permanent," because I don't smoke anything that makes people paranoid.

It should be let to sunsetas soon as the Middle East situation simmers down.

We don't need a demon-rat with the patriot act in their pocket.

"The Patriot Act Should be..."

Repealed. Why give up our liberty to a government that will not enforce its sovereignty? Guard its borders? Protect its people from invasion?

When you lose freedom to have security, you receive and deserve neither one. A take on the old Ben Franklin quote.

Amazing, Left-wingers will take away your rights for the "benefit of society" and Right-wingers will take away your rights and the "name of security". I don't feel secure or very beneficial with either one.

I'm starting to really think about getting out of this country. Not because I don't love it, I do, but this country has become and is becoming the exact opposite of what it was founded on. 20 years from now it will be much worse. Many on both sides are to blame for this and it's a shame the people let them do this. All I need now is the money, can anyone help me out?

The problem with that of course is that someone will try to make a case than even opposing a war is treason, and we never want to go there.

Needs to be reviewed and renewed (if necessary) every December.

I want a complete definition of "terrorist" before I go along with this.

Based on the votes so far, I think if my life depending on it, I would depend most on '98 and '99 FREEPERS. Most of the rest you scare the hell out of me.

That being said, repeal that travesty immediately!

What we need to stop terrorism is not more laws against American citizens. We need to allow our military to do what it is capable of. Then we have our freedoms and our enemy are dead.

Unleash every military person and CIA and anybody the hell the government wants on foreigners to get terrorists. Just leave the Americans alone. All I ask is that my own government have even just probable cause as the Constitution requires, then arrest any American SOB they want. How simple is that.

This Patriot act should be abolished.

Until the government begins to crack down on those who are here illegally and closing our borders and enacting REAL security measures, this entire act is a smoke screen designed to limit and eventually abolish your freedoms.

Far too many people here go right along with it and that is scary.

I voted that it be dropped. Any loss of our precious liberties is unacceptable.

With any government action comes the law of unintended consequences. Some of them may be intended, we can never tell. I trust government to do one thing, screw us into the wall every chance they get.
