Spy network 'aims to shape politics'

CHINA was using its network of spies for more than just gleaning information – it is also trying to influence Australian politics, Chinese defector Yuan Hongbing said today.

Professor Yuan, a writer who was imprisoned in China in 1994 and released to exile in remote Guizhou Province, arrived in Australia in July last year and says he has been awaiting refugee status since. The former Professor of Law at Beijing University has supported claims made by fellow defectors, former diplomat Chen Yonglin and Chinese policeman Hao Fengjun, of an active network of intelligence agents in Australia targeting Chinese dissidents.

Prof Yuan said China used its Australian network to influence political thought, "to turn Australia to a political colony of China".

"Political colony means the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) will use their ideology to influence Australia's politics and gradually to turn Australia to betray its fundamental principles of freedom and democracy," Professor Yuan told ABC Radio through a translator.

Prof Yuan said he had experienced the work of the spies first hand in the past year.

"I was followed by people sometimes and I received a harassment letter," he said.

"Some of my friends also suffered some harassment, for example their car was destroyed by somebody unknown and some of them just received a dead cat," he said.

Prof Yuan's assistant, Zhao Jing, is also seeking asylum in Australia, claiming she risked arrest in China by helping him with his books about Chinese persecution of Mongolians and Tibetans.

The Chicoms and the Russians have combined to bring down the US and our allies. Isn't it obvious?

And since Australia is well on the way to completely disarming its citizens (Step #1) they are well on the way. When the end comes it will be with a whimper

It must be said, though, the end does not appear to be nigh.
