Darwin was right in his assertion of survival of the fittest. It is stupid not to wear seatbelts, therefore, dumb people die in auto accidents due to their ignorant mistake. Rather than ticketing people for not wearing seatbelts, allow nature to follow its natural course and 100% of Americans will wear seatbelts in due time with no law necessary.

I'm not disagreeing with the fact that this is not the federal gov'ts business, but just to play devil's advocate here, do you think there may be an interest in localities requiring seatbelts due to the risk of hurting others as a human projectile?

Gee and to think I've driven 20 years with no seat belt and been in several accidents (only one my fault) no worse for the wear...One could also ask by your logic how so many people stayed alive before seatbelts were even in vehicles.

The problem with your logic is that very few people die in car accidents whether they wear a seatbelt or not. In addition, if it is a real bad accident, even those wearing seatbelts usually die as well. So it would at most weed an statistically insignificant number of drivers.

Hmm... I assume that you board the schoolbus every day to belt your kid in with his own personal belt, but who does this for him when he leaves school for the ride home?
