Amber Alert canceled; no girl reported missing

The Amber Alert issued Thursday for a girl in Montgomery County has been canceled today because the sheriff's office has not been able to confirm that a child is actually missing.

Thursday, a 6-year-old girl was reported to have been snatched by a man in a black van who lured her with candy as she walked with friends in west Montgomery County.

Sheriff's investigators said there had been no reports of a missing child in the area where two children said they saw the girl get into the van.

Investigators said they will still monitor the situation and will reactivate the Amber Alert if new information warrants.

The girl was reportedly walking with two friends on Highland Boulevard between Huffsmith-Dobbin Road and Inverness when the abduction was to have occurred, authorities said.

The description of the van is similar to that used in an attempted abduction in the same area about a month ago, sheriff's officers said.

The missing girl was reported to have been wearing black shorts, pink flip-flops, and a pink shirt with a pink rose and green leaves. She has shoulder-length brown hair, officials said Thursday.

The suspect had been reported to be a white or Hispanic man and was wearing a canvas hat with a chinstrap and a star on it. He reportedly drove a black, box-type van with no side windows and a sliding door.

Anyone with information may call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department at 936-760-5876.
