Reading about this ambush is almost exactly like reading a description of a Nazi wolfpack attacking an Allied convoy during the Second World War. The first shot takes out the closest escort and the badguys swarm in before the remaining goodguys can recover.
Fortunately, in this case, the goodguys were ready and waiting.
