If John McCain had any balls he would go over to Durbin and tell him how Gitmo Differs from the Hanoi Hilton, and while he is there punch this POS in the face,. But he wont.

Frozen corpses are unearthed occasionally by mining companies reprocessing old soviet era siberian precious metal mine tailings dumps as that was the standard means of disposal of expired slave laborers.

Another note to above: many of the prisoners were convinced that Stalin didn't know the Gulags existed, and regularly wrote to Stalin asking for him to investigate them, and to send troops to free them. Apparently he got quite a kick out of reading them at dinners.

Durbin and the dems need to be compared to Alger Hiss and the Rosenbergs, and all of their treasonous acts, come on lets get this rolling, somebody that knows more about Hiss than I do, please write an article or op ed. Lets use their own medicine against them, compare them to the worst of America, because they are compareing us to the worst of the world creeps. Don't forget Benidict Arnold.

Great work on both those threads! ADL has dressed him down. And the VFW - Veterans of Foreign Wars. He's already trying to deflect: saying he meant 'interrogation tactics'. One problem with that: Nazi, gulag, and pol pot interrogations are something else. In fact, McCain got a good taste of certain interrogation tactics. Like I said before, McCain will call him on this.

In out-clowning Howard Dean, Dick Durbinsane may be making an attempt to take over as DNC chairman?

Yeah, mail Burban a copy of Alexander Solzinitzin's Book, Gulag Archepeligo, might bring him up to date on what Stalin did to his own people.

My blood's been boiling since yesterday. Today I almost can't see straight. The WORD durbin should supplant quisling as a synonym for traitor. This is worse than just inflaming our enemies' hate and fantasies about the righteousness of their cause. It further stokes the antipathy of the rest of world that's already hungary for and which ravinously embraces anything, however absurd, that makes Americans look like the vilest people ever to inhabit the world.

More of our good people will die; establishing self-reliance in the fledgling Iraqi government will be a longer, more difficult and expensive process - just so one of those self-possessed democrats, who've done enough damage already, could ratchet up his campaign of LIES to undermine president Bush.

PLEASE people. Communicate your outrage wherever you can. Maybe the backlash will be enough to hurt the democrats
in the next election or two. At least then the deaths of our troops and others this POS has made inevitable won't be totally in vain.

Doug
Thanks for this post. I'd urge all to read her book - she has done an excellent job. Also recommended is this book:

Book Description

Between 1932 and 1953, a fleet of ordinary cargo ships was pressed into extraordinary service. The fleet's task was to relocate approximately one-million forced laborers to the Soviet Gulag in Kolyma, located along the Arctic Circle in far northeastern Siberia. Bollinger presents the often-horrific stories of the Gulag fleet and its passengers .

Putin needs to open a working Gulag camp to remind Russia of its past. He has plenty of ex-KGB hacks who'd be happy with the power trip of running it. Putin can seen his own terrorist captures there and W can send those who don't cooperate while at Club Gitmo. If we need to maintain a legal fiction of US control we could specify a gulag on Wrangal Island, the Russian vs. American ownership of which I think is still technically in dispute.

The left never complained about the standard Soviet prisons of the Stalin era so I'm sure they won't have any complaints about us transferring prisoners from our Gitmo 'hell hole" to a communist paradise. We should be able to guarantee no cruel use of air conditioning. For those few media types and junket deprived Congress critters who insist on seeing things for themselves I'm sure Putin could reprise Stalin's treatment of advocates of the free press and democracy.

Great book, have it on my nightstand right now. When you begin to really get into the Why's of the Gulag system it was truly EVIL. But I think that when N. Korea is finally free we will learn that the Soviet Gulag system pales in comparison to what N. Korea has done And is still doing

Frankly, I thought that the Soviets should have reopened the Gulag for the perpetrators of that massacre of the school children.
