Driving While Talking - (Greg Crosby is right!..cell phone driver-talkers are "not all there!")

It seems that just about everyone has a favorite "idiot cellphone driver" story. My favorite is also my most recent.

I'm leaving a supermarket parking lot and situated one car back to make a right turn. A female driving the ubiquitous over sized (for her) SUV approaches the drive from the left and starts the turn at too great a speed (no signal of course!). She finally realizes that she isn't gonna make it and slams on her brakes before she hits the vehicle ahead of me.

Now she's is a quandary - steer her car or talk on the phone (I kid you not!). She has a cell in one hand, but the maneuver she needs to do requires both hands. But will she PUT THE F'ING PHONE DOWN?!!! NO!!!

She makes several attempts to "ratchet" the wheel back and forth, then realizes that she must back up or she won't make the turn without striking the poor, hapless driver in the other vehicle) (what do you suppose was going through that other drivers mind!).

So here's this ditz, still talking while trying to reach across with her LEFT HAND to shift the SUV into reverse (Thank god there was no approaching traffic!).

Miraculously, she manages to back up, and take another tack at turning into the parking lot.

To her credit, whatever conversation she was having was never in jeopardy.......

What the heck do they talk about anyway?

I have no idea, at home I can spend an hour or 2 talking to my sister, but the cell is used for telling coworkers, I,m running late or in case of family issues (sister again) needing agent attention.

well I've tried talking on cell and driving, even with handsfree set and its much differant than screaming kids or someone talking to you. a phone is a little different, yoru mind is elsewhere, when you talk with someone to cant' see your visualizing facial expressions, maybe something else. of course I have given up chatting on phone while driving, I pull over if I need to. driving needs 100% concentration, I dont want to be dead because of someone' elses ignorance. nature kills the weak and the stupid, but its a pain that sometimes the non stupid one's have to go out with the ignorant. if I had my way, I would sterlize everyone to prevent them from breeding any further for not being intelligent enough to realize they need 100% concentration in hopes of lowering the number in later years.. in realistic terms, I would impose a stiff penalty 500.00
