"His hometown newspaper, the Chicago Tribune, also chastised Mr. Durbin in an editorial in yesterday's editions for his Nazi analogy."

I've found no mention of Durbin's senate floor comments in The Chicago Sun Times, his other hometown newspaper. Their DC Bureau Chief Lynn Sweet, hasn't replied to my email asking why her paper is mute on this.

When you look at the sky and you see pigs flying by, that's the day that the Senate will hold him accountable.

This idiot is trying to lay any blame on us for misunderstanding his vile remarks toward the military. Well Turban what about the vile insults to Jews, Gulag and Pol Pot victims?

No apology to read here move along.

Durbin is another career politician. He was elected to the House in 1983 then the Senate in 1996.

Like so many in Congress, especially those in the Senate, Durbin is not really what he was elected to be. Oh he's a US Senator but that does not mean he is president or someone that dictates our foreign policy. That's not the way it's supposed to be but people like Durbin act like they are much more than what they should be. Because over the years they have grasped at and found power way beyond the confines of whatever group of people they actually represent and who voted them in office.

The problem with these small minded little brats like Durbin is that they are so far removed from the people that vote for them that they might as well be on another planet. That's why I propose one simple campaign finance law. It reads like this:

No candidate running for elected office may accept campaign contributions in any form whether it be monetary or otherwise from anyone other than an individual registered to vote for that candidate directly in a pending election.

That's basically it. I'm sure it could be worded better.

If the only place the bozos in Congress could get money was from the people they directly represent a lot of this garbage like Durbin is spouting would go away. He'd have to be very careful not to PO his voters. And, people like Hillary Clinton who with her HillPac group could not insert themselves into other campaigns like Hillary has done. Same thing for people like George Soros.

Imagine if the only people somone running for office could get $$$ from are the people that can vote for them. These politicos would have to be "home" all the time. More people would vote because now they have real power. These national candidates would not be running all over the country collecting money from people that they don't represent. People like John McCain would not be on TV all the time yapping away like they are little kings because the only people that would listen to them would be their own voters. And no more lobbyist money. Also imagine how easily we could scrap the current tax laws and go to a simple tax system because the politicians would have no motivation to social engineer or support tax legislation for special interests because those special interests could not donate money to them.

This won't happen, of course. But I wonder if the founders saw the way we now have lifetime politicians if they would not have consider such a law or something like it.

I'm sure this freaking idiot is "sorry" now. He is sorry that he created such a fire storm for the Dims. He just committed treason, the most vile slanderous type of treason. How many people witnessed this speech? If the speech was witnessed by three people Durbin's public commentary could be prosecuted. I forget whether the privilege of "fair" commentary on the floor of the U.S. Senate gives him license to commit treason. But he has committed a "high crime" while in office. Whether he ought to be prosecuted for treason is up to the Justice Department now.

The GOP ought to press harder. Time for Republicans in the U.S. Senate to grab Durbin's throat and squeeze. Choke the life out of him. Insist that he be removed from his high office for his vile comments.

Sure, Dick regrets his inane, obscene and seditious remarks, because he got flooded with angry emails, calls, faxes, and letters by veterans and other American who love their country and hate lies.
Now, it's only proper that all those Illinoisans who voted for the SOB remember his remarks and cheap regrets when his election rolls around again. He is needed at home, selling 1991 Hondas in a backlot in Springfield. Don't deprive him of a new career choice.

From Durbin's website:

Improving Health Care: The House author of landmark legislation to ban smoking on commercial airline flights...

Durbin also led the effort to ban ephedra, a dangerous product sold as a nutritional supplement...

Leading Gun Safety Efforts: Durbin has worked for gun safety legislation to keep guns out of the hands of children. He introduced bipartisan legislation to hold adults responsible if they fail to lock up their firearms...

He also teamed up with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and local law enforcement agencies to launch an initiative to help Illinois become the first state to voluntarily trace every crime gun recovered from a crime scene.

Working for a Fair Tax Code: Durbin’s tax cut agenda includes tax credits for small businesses buying health insurance for their low-income workers...

So in summary, the Dick works hard to ban smoking rights, ban dietary supplements, jail gun owners, partner with BATFE, give tax breaks for hiring illegal aliens, and make the global image of the USA equivalent to Hitler and Pol Pot. Thanks a lot, Illinois voters. Think about that next time you vote.

Unfortunately, his remarks are probably winning him brownie points with most of his constituency.

I wonder how Durbin's constituents in Skokie, IL, feel about his linking the treatment of detainees at GITMO to Nazis?

For those of you who don't remember, Skokie, IL, is where the American Nazi party wanted to hold a march. The residents of Skokie are primarily Jewish. How many victims of the Nazi could these residents of Skokie count in their families? And Durbin pissed on their graves.

I wonder if the people of Skokie even know about this... I did a google search, and it turns out that there's a newspaper in Skokie called the Skokie Review. It seems to be affiliated with the Chicago Sun Times. When I did a search of the paper on-line for the word Durbin, I got no hits for the entire year of 2005. Same thing for the word Nazi.

My guess is that the MSM is doing their best to protect him, trying to brush this under the rug. They're going to minimize the reporting on it, hoping that it will go away. They might just make it. After all, there's no election coming up, and Durbin isn't running for the President of the United States.

Mark

Thank you for the link.........I just sent the senator a scathing letter. He'll never see it, I bet, but it makes me feel better.

Durbin 'regrets' Gitmo remarks

Not yet, he doesn't. Not yet.

But he will.

Keep up the pressure. Most importantly, write a physical letter to both of your Senators demanding censure.

Yes, a physical letter to your Senators, as well as a letter to the editor (especially Illinois editors). Words have meaning and have consequences, and his words have hurt us, have hurt our country. His silly little backfish statement does nothing to apologize nor make up for the wrong he has done.

I think Senator Durbin needs to start talking to former New York Times Editor-in-Chief Howell Raines about doing mea culpas. The Senator's remarks from the last 24 hours sounds like the damage control Raines tried to do before he resigned under pressure over the whole Jayson Blair fiasco.

From the web:

Anti-war protesters spat on Vietnam veterans when the latter arrived home.
NOT!
There are no pictures, articles or police reports of such incidents. In reality, many war opponents regarded combat veterans as victims, not villains. There was one incident of people spitting on veterans, but these were young GOP zealots going after veterans who were calling for an end to the war.
