Let me ask for some opinions here. A few weeks ago, I guy I know was the victim of a home invasion. He and his wife were tied up and held and gunpoint for 3 hours. Fortunately, neither was seriously injured nor did their kids ever wake up.
The robbers got in through an unlocked window and woke them up at 3:00am.

If you're actually awakened, with no time to grab your piece, do you think you should start fighting right away? In my buddy's case, they didn't and were lucky. But sometimes these POS's get so jazzed up on power that they'll rob you, rape your wife and then kill you both.

BTW, we have his and hers pistols in/on our nightstands
(Glock .45, S&W .38)

Thoughts?

I keep a tac light along with a 9 and a 12 guage for home protection. A bad guy sees a light like that coming down the stairs and he know its atached to something wicked. I recommend a tac light as the first line of defense. It's very important to take the upper hand in a situation like that.

I live in the country and it takes the Sherriff at least 30 mintues to get out to our developement so I lean on the fight right away side but there is no blanket statement to apply to all situations. If someone is bold enough to break into your place when you are home, then you have to assume the worst. I pray that my wife and I never have to make such a snap decision.

I say you protect yourself at any cost. Chances are the perp will kill you anyway so...put a little hurt on the perp first AND...by surprise. Maybe you can avoid any harm upon your person or your family that way. I'd rather die fighting for my family and my home than to let them suffer at the hands of an invader who would kill them anyway. Those are our thoughts.

I keep the MP-5 ready for uninvited guests like these.
The wife also knows how to use it,or her USP,1911A1-etc.
