Would Tiger Woods be able to use this? Michael Jackson?
Most of my Black friends are on blood pressure meds, late fifties in age, and several have died from this condition. What the cause is I don't have a clue.
Like any drug, it's need would be determined by the patient's physician.
The major cause for the higher black rates of heart disease and high blood pressure is the "soul food"diets filled with fried and salt saturated foods.
"the Sharpton/Jackson crew would actually fight this drug on the basis that it's better to let black people die than allow that they may have health issues different from those of other races."
That crew fights plenty of things on the basis that it's better to let blacks suffer than to support the GOP--I see nothing unusual in that scenario.
Honest question: What did he have to say? I am somewhat more than merely curious, as you know. FReepmail me if you prefer.
Thanks.

Stress, fatty food... I used to work in a healthfood store frequented by many black people. Vegetarian diet and exercise helped many reduce or completel eliminate bp meds. I'm in favor of pills only in the most emergent of cases.
"Political correctness be damned."
Exactly. Who in the bloody hell could be disturbed that a medicine helps someone?
Seems to me that I've heard that different ethnicities are more susceptible to lactose intolerance. I've heard that certain medicines for heart problems and depression do not work the same way for women as for men. Certain ethnicities tend to have certain illnesses, inherited. It's genetic.
When I first heard about this study, I was thrilled--I had a good friend who died as a result of hypertension, and I'm aware that heart disease and hypertension affect more blacks than whites, for some reason. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that this was somehow controversial! Believe me, if they came out with a drug that made little fat Italian women put off that heart attack, "TubbyDPJ" would be on her way, not arguing about why it only works for me and not Fred O'Leary down the street.
Of all the things in the world to use for race bait, this is without a doubt, the most stupid. There oughta be an award.
"The conspiracy theorist in me wonders about exploitation on this sort of designation "
I don't think that's conspiracy theory, lol--that's just reasonable thinking. As a woman, I have just discovered via advertising, that I have the dreaded "armpits," as opposed to the apparently lovelier "underarms." Exploitation, marketing, it's all about scaring someone (grin).
