Supreme Court could decide Ten Commandments
News8 ^ | 6/20/05 | Kareen Wynter

There is just two weeks left before the U.S. Supreme Court adjourns for the summer.

Justices could rule Monday on controversial cases involving the Ten Commandments and file sharing.

One case involves the legality of file sharing. Copyright owners - from the music to movie industry - are fighting to clamp down on computer file-swapping services, such as Grokster, which allow Internet users to share digitized music and movie files.

The recording industry claims some technology companies are stealing from artists, and infringing on their constitutional right to have their copyrighted material protected.

Justices will also weigh cases on the dispute over the religious display of the Ten Commandments on government property. One case involves a Texas attorney who placed a monument of the Ten Commandments near the State Capitol in Austin.

Critics argue such actions violate the constitutional separation of church and state by implying government endorsement of a particular religion.

There is also buzz in the beltway on the future of 80-year-old Chief Justice William Rehnquist, who underwent surgery late last year for thyroid cancer.

Rehnquist hasn't made any announcement on whether or not he'll stay on for another full term, but his health has fueled speculation on a possible retirement.

There is a higher court than the Supreme Court.

"Supreme Court could decide Ten Commandments"

The Ten Commandments will ultimately decide what is the Supreme Court.

They keep screwing up so much, but if they want to have any credibility at all (understanding that credibility doesn't equate legal authority) they need to get this one right.

My favorite Moses quote:

"The good news: I got him down to ten. The bad news: adultery is still in there."

Supreme Court could decide Ten Commandments

This is a pretty entertaining title. We already know the black robed set is already superior to any senator. Any representative. Any president. We now know the black robed set has the Big Guy reporting to them as well.

If they think they are the highest court in the land, they will have another think coming when they meet their maker.

Wow, critics of religion in our society are getting so far removed from what the First Amendment actually says that it's getting absolutely ridiculous. The first Amendment says nothing about government endorsement of a particular religion, and now critics are arguing that the First Amendment disallows implying government endorsement of a particular religion. This is getting surreal.

There is just two weeks...

When our fine journalist can't get the grammar in his opening sentence working, I wonder a bit about his mental faculties.

Moral Absolutes Ping.

There will no doubt be more articles about this 10 Commandments case. Would it be binding for all other such cases? I know the ACLU is on the prowl, sending its evil minions to all corners of the US, espcially smaller towns, looking for the dread "Commandments" on something that resembles public property. Their modus operandi (sp?) is to sue the town or county, which then surrenders, since they don't have gazillions of $ with which to fight the well-funded ACLU.*

If the SCOTUS gives a bad decision on this, many of us will be very outraged.

Freepmail me if you want on/off this pinglist.

Note: I'll try to find that article (was it yesterday?) replete with quotes from various luminaries from the revolutionary and afterward period of our country. There's no doubt what they would have thought about the display of the 10 Commandments on public property.

*Funded in large part by our taxdollars, in case you don't know.

If supreme court rules against 10 comandments, it only means it`s time to do what Americas Founding Fathers did in the face of tyranny; REVOLUTION. Our government even under (so called) Republicans, won`t even secure our boarders. What does that say about our Representatives ? Mabe dems and reps are really on the same team. Are we being played for suckers ? Good Cop/Bad Cop ? BOTH BEING THE ENEMY WITHIN? OUR GOVERNMENT DURING THE FIFTYS WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED THIS INSANITY. Mabe the government wants to create such chaos that the people will foolishly vote to have micro-chips placed under our skin for identy reasons. You be the judge. Americas Founding Fathers were all CHIRSTIANS(the real ones)and I believe it`s time for Americas Christian Churches to unite and vote only their tried and true Christians in office(lawyer or not) and vote for no-one else. There is little time to take a chance anymore on either Dems or Reps. They have shown themselves to be betrayers OF THE PROMISE. Americas Founding Fathers writings were mostly removed from public school text books over 70 years ago. Get the book; "ORIGINAL INTENT" ,by BARTON and discover what our government has stolen from you and I; or pick up any American History book published before 1930; Your eye`s will be opened to the truth of both current partys (dems and reps). When your eyes open; organize your bretheren quickly in every town and city; just as Americas Founding Fathers did. DO YOU KNOW aMERICAS FOUNDING FATHERS WENT TO WAR WITH BRITON BY A DECIDING VOTE OF ONE. ONE VOTE. EVERYONE COUNTS.

Moses; one of my favorite three panel cartoons has Moses standing with the 10 Commandments and he says, "thats a good question" and walks back up the mount. The second frame shows a big explosion; the third Moses is back all burned and smoking like he was zotted with the response: "He said yes, all of them, all of the time".

I've always wondered what second thoughts half minded individuals might have if there was any kind of religious basis in their lives? How many people might alive today if some of these morons thought past our judicial system?
