No, watching cops ignoring crime and drug dealing in open view in public places damages the trust a lot more.

Its easier to bust a kid smoking pot than it is to do the work to catch a rapist.

Arresting drug dealers and criminals do no produce revenue. Parking tickets and traffic infractions including jaywalking produced enormous amounts of revenue. For example, in Houston, cops who would normally be off duty can now work overtime if they want to do jaywalking duty downtown, a $200 ticket. When city hall was asked if jaywalking was a problem they said, no but, there are so many people down there. It is all about revenue enhancement.
