Brennan has been released from the hospital. Good ending to this story.
It was a really good end. No abduction ... no body ... just a lost kid who needed someone to find him and a bunch of folks willing to go into the woods and try. This is the best kind of story.
Obviously, something is not right, no normal person, even a kid, who is lost and wet and hungry, hides from rescurers. Is the kid mentally retarded? Whatever the reason, something is wrong here.
That little boy is extremely lucky.
Thank God, who works miracles. I can only hope for such an outcome for the young lady in Aruba...what her mother's going through is hell. She should at least know, one way or another.
What I've read is that the kid is extremely shy. Early in the search his Mom cautioned searchers about this saying he might hide from strangers even if he thought they were looking for him. Turns out she was right. I can believe it too - I used to be almost painfully shy... but I grew out of it.
I have that feeling too. Not retarded, but perhaps slightly autistic. They said he was real shy and awkward in social situations, and he did not respond well to new environs...
Sorry you are wrong. I was a member of the Malibu Search and Rescue team for 8 years. I did many searches. When someone is hungry dehydrated, scared, delusional, they will hide from people looking for them. This is not out of charicter at all.
I certainly could be, and hopefully am. I was thinking the same thing, that someone lost like that would be in a clouded mental state, to say the least. However his family had made statements about him that cause me to believe that he might not be a typical young boy at that age. Like I said, I hope those beliefs are wrong.
Great news--I saw a blurb on the tube this morn.
Scouting is good. It teaches survival skills and this youngster obviously knew them well.
Just another reason to support the Boy Scouts and ignore the shrill homosexual activists.
Extreme shyness could make someone do this. It doesn't mean there's some kind of mental defect.
Does everything that doesn't fit into the general realm of "normal behavior" have to be a disorder?
I am not trying to be ugly (it just comes naturally HA), I was painfully shy 'back in the day', and thank goodness no one labelled, therapized or drugged me. They just let me grow up.
On another note, I only realized yesterday that they are in an area where I spent many days hiking and cross country skiing before I moved out of Wyoming. It is so beautiful there...
If autistic he could hide. But what we find is common when searching for someone over a period of days is they loose all track of time. They might feel like they shave been lost for several hours not several days. Because they are in a mode of fear most of the time, what they fear is anything but themselves, strange voices mean a threat. Makes it hard for us.
"Obviously, something is not right, no normal person, even a kid, who is lost and wet and hungry, hides from rescurers. Is the kid mentally retarded? Whatever the reason, something is wrong here."
He should pay for the time of volunteers and perhaps be brought up on charges for running away and hiding from rescuers. He knew exactly what he was doing. (/bug-eyed bride)
Oh, so was I! Very, VERY shy, and my parents DID think there was maybe something wrong with me, but they figured I'd out grow it, which by age 35, I pretty much did. Also, I would probably have been diagnosed as having ADD, luckily, they weren't into popping pills into kids back then..
Quite interesting. While you were involved, did you find most of the people you were looking for? I have always found the "lost in the wilderness" stories to be quite fascinating. My brother has become something of a survivalist, going into the woods for several days with minimal supplies. By the way, your nickname reminds me of something Native American, are you by any chance of such descent?
and i was praying just last night before i went to bed that he would be found this week, alive... praise God!
He hid from rescuers because he feared abduction. Irony of all ironies. Oh and we are raising kids to be fearful of a hateful world. How quaint.
"The DU comments are disgusting! I apologize to God and everyone for this self righteous post."
No need for an apology for stating the obvious. Checking DU at least three times a day (see tagline)often makes me wish I could wipe my own memory of the event.
I'm not going to read DU anymore, except for the DUFU threads. I can only take so much of that place.
