"I'm not going to read DU anymore, except for the DUFU threads. I can only take so much of that place."
I don't blame you. Often I consider myself like some Medieval soul eater, absorbing all the disgusting things they have to say. When the level gets to ohigh, I need a break. But it does work to keep me aware of how evil they can be.
Yes we find most but they are decomposing at the moment. It only takes 2 or 3 mistakes to kill you in the wildernes, like not checking the weather, not wearing the right clothes, not telling people where you are going and when you will be back, and not understanding the terrain and distance etc. Any 2 of these combos can put you in an bad place. Any 3 can kill you.
People say ... I will have my cell phone I will call if in trouble. That is all nice if you can get a signal, or if you are conscious enough to dial, lets say you are conscious but because you tripped on a rock you can not remember how to use the phone, or most likely you trip on a small rock and bust your femur and your phone is in the back pack on your back but you cant physically move because the pain causes you to lose consciousnees ... etc.
The outdoors are inviting and fun but most people believe because they own a SUV or went to a boyscout camp when they were 11 they can survive. The problem is peoples stupidity not only kills them but kills their rescuers that go down in the helo looking for them or are killed in a head on accident with drunk teen agers on the way to the search spot.... both of these have happened to team mates.
Welcome troll, enjoy your short stay.
From the AP story.....
"Brennan does not remember much of the four days he was missing, his parents said. They said they do not plan to push him to talk about his time in the woods, but they have learned a few answers."
Time kinda gets distorted in these situations and I do not know why other than you are in such confusion and fear your mind loses its reference points.

Along with others on this thread, I also get the sense that this is an unusual child. My own son has Asperger Syndrome (high functioning autism). His thinking is very inflexible. When we taught him not to talk to strangers, he wouldn't say hi to the checker at the grocery store. For kids like this its real difficult to work their way through exceptions to the rule or pick up the "nuances" of "I can talk to people I don't know who work in a store because mom is there and it is safe."
I finally had to tell my son to forget the whole thing and talk to whomever he pleases. Then, I never let him out of my sight. LOL!
great news,
now, what is it with these kids in utah, he like elizabeth smart had an opportunity to get rescued and refused. I just don't understand, is it the water?
Thats the term I was thinking of. Thanks for the reminder. In another article, the parents said that he had been born prematurely and is somewhat slow, though not retarded.
Miracles do happen nowadays.
I saw that too. The poor mom was obviously heartbroken. I was surprised dad stayed so composed. I'd have been a frantic wreck.
Thay seemed like wonderful people. What was hard to see though was the face of the dad who had lost his boy who was never found in the same area the year before. He volunteered at once for this search. Kudos to him.
PRAISE GOD FROM whom ALL BLESSINGS FLOW.
The guy who found him felt a feeling like he just had to take that day off and go volunteer to search for some reason, like something was going to happen.
I heard of another story a couple of years ago where this mom felt that something wasn't quite right with this man and the little girl he was travelling with. She called police and it turned out that she was reported missing. The guy was arrested and the girl was returned safe. NO IT WAS NOT Elizabeth Smart.
The child who was lost is a Cub Scout who was invited to accompany his neighbors, a Boy Scout and father.
Actually, an 11-year-old scout.
Now.... they may have to take away any badge he earned for woods navigation and finding his way home, but that's a small matter.
His mom alluded to the fact that he didn't have a good sense of direction.
Makes me think the kid, who was hungry, was also hiding for the fun of the game.
I don't think so.
His mom was awesome! I wouldn't have been as composed as she was able to be. The community went out and brought this child back to his family.
There's a story of another family suing the Boy Scouts for an instance like this. This one won't, I guarantee it.
My brother (all 6 of us are Eagle Scouts) went on a camping trip. This one kid insisted on going his own way down a steep part despite the best attempts of the boys to persuade him otherwise. He ended up falling 100 feet down a cliff and dying. My brother was the first one to come upon the body. He immediately fell on his knees and asked God what he should do. He and the other boys and the leaders were able to deal with it and came out better men because of it. Yes, there were mistakes made, but that boy's family did not even think of suing. They could only remember the boy's life and what kind of person he was and offered comfort to the other boys. My friend, the boy's brother, was mad for a little while because boy had tested positive as a kidney donator (he had been waiting for a kidney for many, many years). My brother still tears up when he remembers the experience.
incredible story!!!
Another one happened a year or so ago. This boy was kidnapped and taken up to this canyon by this crazy guy. He choked the boy and stabbed him several times, pushing him off the side of the road down a hill, leaving him for dead. The boy somehow made his way close enough to the top of the hill so that a driver saw him who was able to help out the boy. He had been down far enough that drivers would not have been able to notice him. Now I guess, he's doing fine. Sometimes God looks out for these little ones and they teach us all.
Yes, moog, God has a way of teaching us through these miracles.Never GIVE UP HOPE.

Even with tragedy, miracles can ensue and lives be changed.
