Well said. This decision represents a huge blow to the freedom to contract (or not).

Well, if you consider that you have always been paying rent on the property in the form of property taxes, the Supreme Court just made it easier for the government to evict you as a tenant in your own home.

but I lack faith in the Repubs

Don't let a few things like pornographers at fund raisers, no border enforcement, federal intrusion into education, cave-in on filibusters and bloated budgets turn you off.

The really twisted thing is Justice Stevens is portraying this as a "states rights" move to block the federal government from interfering with local officials. More accurately, it is a move by the Supreme Court to block our Constitution.

Our local AM station is going nuts. This should unite liberals and conservatives to massively protest the bulldozers in New London.

Hey, the news has been depressing me most of the day, thought I be polite and share. "From each according the his ability (to generate depression), to each according to his needs (lacking depression)."

Thanks....I appreciate your generosity in sharing! :/

Hello All,

New to Free Republic...not Conservative or Republican but many of us on the 'other' website thought both sides can come together on this and get an amendment in the works.

I've yet to see anyone respond positively to this...then again, I haven't talked with many billionaire developers..

P.S. Bear with me on posting...not quite sure how it works here yet

> What recourse do we have?

A Constitutional amendment. Sorry to be both vulgar and disrespectful of a national symbol, but, Screw the flag amendment. Americans' rights to property need to be guaranteed by the Constitution!

You know what else gives me the abject WILLIES about this decision? For all of our animosity we trade with the Libs, I can't see them generally liking this either... Something is very rotten in DC this day.

Bush should censure the Court for this decision. Unfortunately he probably agrees with it.

LOL, I just sent an email to Neil Cavuto, saying that the Supreme Court is using International Law again. The law of President Robert Gabriel MUGABE and Zimbabwe. I also told him that when Free Republic and Democratic Underground agree on something, the court got it wrong.

No kidding...hell must really be freezing over because there are rally cries on both sites for us to join up.

By the way...think you could give me a few pointers on how this site works? I'm used to DU and am having trouble finding my way around.

Thanks

I doubt that. Seriously.

The folks here are speculating on a Constitutional Amendment protecting private property.

Yeah I know it is already in the 5th amendment but the Court seems to have eviscerated it today.

I couldn't agree more. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that our freedom of speech (McCain Feingold) and our right to own property would have been struck down but the SUPRERE COURT! They are supposed to be defending our rights instead of taking them away.
