Why do they want to take on the influence of the "religious right" in the Republican Party? Why don't they simply align with the party they most agree with -- the Democrats? Maybe there's a hidden significance to this: even liberal Christians are uncomfortable with the apparent hostility within the Democrat Party to religious convictions.

(BTW, it always comes down to abortion. To the left, "Religion = anti-abortion.")

I don't understand either.

The same division can be seen here too. This is a conservative forum but there are a lot of folks that make me wonder why they are here.
