Besides, it was warm in Pittsburgh, and the INS agents don't like to leave an air-conditioned office, except at lunchtime.

Only one word for the INS attitude: outrageous.

This is utter insanity.

Burgoyne, who was at home, turned the five away because they had no documents proving their claim to the gold Honda in which they were found early Tuesday.

Trust me! I’m a criminal! Besides, we have Special Status – we’re here illegally.

I get it now..

there are NO laws in the United States anymore. We can all do as we please.

The INS needs to be disbanded if they don't want to do their freakin jobs.

"When deputies contacted INS Agent Rod Berry in Pittsburgh, he said he wasn't authorized to detain the individuals unless given approval from his office."

What?!? Isn't this part of their freakin' job!? They voluntarily admitted they are here illegally, detain them and send 'em back. It's really not that complicated. This shows how little fear illegals have of our authorities when they go to the police Chief's home to try and get their car back! This really is appalling.

He should have arrested them again and let the process start all over again.

Interesting about the seizure of the illegal's car.

Seems to be quite above board. Seems to me that local law enforcement could use this to great advantage without having to trouble the INS.

The men, who said they lived in North Carolina and were on their way to California when they were arrested, had documents in their possession indicating they were released and had a January 2006 hearing scheduled in federal court in Pittsburgh, Burgoyne said.

Isn't that like a pass to stay in the U.S.? It's the same as saying, "You must remain here illegally until we can determine if you are illegal."

The ineptitude of our federal gubmint on this issue is beyond measure.

The INS agents are likely in a position where they simply can't do their job correctly.

Their budget simply won't allow them to pay for incarcerating illegal aliens for six months until they get their hearing. This means that unless there is evidence that they are dangerous, they get released until their hearing. If they are in the country illegally, there's nothing to encourage them to show up for their hearing.

Our system is broken.

It can't take six months to get a hearing if we're going to be able to determine their status and deport illegal aliens.

We need more federal judges to handle immigration hearings. A lot more federal judges.

Me need more border patrol agents, but they won't be able to do much if we can't detain and process the illegal aliens they catch.

The INS probably deos have some employees that aren't doing their jobs as well as they should.

It's hard to retain good people when they aren't given what they need to do their jobs. It's also hard to fire bad people from government jobs.

At least they didn't have hazmat licenses:

CHICAGO - Authorities arrested six illegal immigrants and were looking for 10 more who managed to get Illinois commercial drivers licenses that permit them to haul hazardous materials.

"At this point, no terrorist activity or public safety issues," are involved, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Tim Counts said Thursday.

The six men - from the Philippines, Jordan, Belize and Mongolia - were arrested in the Chicago area during the last two weeks, and the government has started deportation proceedings against them, Counts said.

Their identities were not released and Counts did not know the names of their employers. He said some of the men worked as commercial truck drivers.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, there are 2.7 million licensed hazmat drivers in the United States, including 115,000 in Illinois. Nationally, there have been several arrests of illegal immigrants who had obtained the licenses.

The gall of knocking on the chief's door and demanding the return of the Honda. Well, why not? We're assumed to be incredibly stupid since everyone in Mexico knows we're giving away the store --(the entire country.)

Unbelievably brazen and ridiculous, yet we ask for this kind of garbage with our insane immigration non-policies.

It's going to be a whoooole different ballgame in 2008. The party's over.

From Pittsburgh to Ohio in a taxi?? Must have been a prety good fare for the taxi driver.

What are we paying the INS to do? If they don't do their jobs, why should we pay them?

Burgoyne, who spent 33 years with the FBI, said he plans to meet with INS officials in Pittsburgh in the near future.

The Sheriff isn't going to take any lip from them!

Asked for identification, the driver provided deputies with his driver's license for the Mexican state of Acapulco.

must have been a false Mexican license, because there is no state of Acapulco. The city of Acapulco is in Guerrero state, and the state issues the license, not the city

I am glad there is something more we can do besides sit here and steam. That's why I believe in supporting the Minuteman Project. I just went to their Web site to seek solace after reading this and learned that they have a new project aptly named "Operation Spotlight". It is

a network of former and retired specialists from the American judiciary system. They are assembling to legally provide to law enforcement agencies incriminating evidence of deliberate violations of state or federal immigration, tax or employment laws.

They are seeking volunteers with legal backgrounds, as well as informants, so if any of you can help them, go for it.

When they buy their tacos from the illegal mexican vendor on the street corner.
