Ex-hostage hires bounty hunters

A HOSTAGE held alongside Australian Douglas Wood in Iraq has hired bounty hunters to track down his former captors, promising to eliminate them one by one.

Swede Ulf Hjertstrom, who was held for several weeks with Mr Wood in Baghdad, was released by his kidnappers on May 30.

Mr Hjertstrom has since claimed he shared information with US and Iraqi troops about Mr Wood which led to the release of the 63-year-old Australian engineers two weeks ago, after 47 days in captivity.

Now, he wants to find those responsible.

"I have now put some people to work to find these bastards," he told the Ten Network today.

"I invested about $50,000 so far and we will get them one by one."

Just saw Man a Fire again last night. Reminds me of this guy, Woods. As John Kreasy said, "Revenge is a dish best served cold."

A man after my own heart and there is great logic to this. If there were never any consequences for there actions then your are wrong not to go after them. I don't not agree with those that they capital punishment is barbaric and wrong. On the contrary not to hold the guilty party only says you have no respect for life. The punishment does fit the crime.

Wow. This guy is totally destroying my long held belief that all Swedes are pussy Marxists.

In reality I know they are not. I have read a few times over the past few years that they have one of the largest contingent of free marketers in any European country. The problem is is that they only garner about 35% of the vote.

I can't blame Mr. Hjerstrom one bit for wanting justice against the animals they took him hostage and treated him so evilly. I doubt very much the terrorists that were found in the house with him will ever be executed for the murders of the 8 - 9 fellow hostages that he says he witnessed. I hope if he is going to this he is using Iraqi bounty hunters. I don't believe foreigners, especially Caucasians, are going to go into an Iraqi neighborhood and track down squat. They could become hostages themselves. A lot of these hostage takers are local gangsters and tribal leaders and some of police and military belong to these tribes.

This Swede shares the frontier mentality still evident in Red state America.

No doubt his fierce individualism and commitment to individual freedom and dignity will be deplored in Europe and Blue America as cowboy excrescence.

But mostly they will be threatened by his unashamed resort to self-help. Where do you suppose Mr. Hjertstrom stands today on the issue of the right to bear arms? I wonder if he is a true Viking or a liberal who has literally been mugged by reality.

The old Ross Perot (the 1970s Iraninan hostage rescue Ross Perot) would have invested in this idea.

Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man.
A knight without armor in a savage land.
His fast gun for hire head's the calling wind.
A soldier of fotune is the man called Paladin.

Paladin, Paladin Where do you roam?
Paladin, Paladin, Far, far from home.

He travels on to wherever he must;
A chess knight of silver is his badge of trust.
There are campfire legends that the plainsmen spin
Of the man with the gun,
of the man called Pa-l-l-l-l-a-din

Well now, you have just dated yourself. When did this series come out, late fifties? Black and white, considered more "adult" than other offerings in the golden age of TV westerns.

Can you remember the day of the week?

This kind of trivia is not entirely navel gazing, it reflects an age when we had about half the population and twice the civility. Have you noted the reflexive need in liberals to denigrate the era of Leave it To Beaver?

Don't let Ted Kennedy hear about this. Someone voluntarily heading into a "quagmire"? Don't they know that it is hopeless and all is lost?
