A type of Japanese entertainment with elaborately costumed actors performing bizarre stylized traditional plays. Everyone in the audience already knows the story and the players actions on stage are supposed to always be the same.
I think a better analogy for the previous poster would have been a bird's mating dance, unless he really gets into the costumes. :) (google up kabuki and you'll see what I mean)
