Chinese dragon awakens By Bill Gertz THE WASHINGTON TIMES Published June 26, 2005

Part I

China is building its military forces faster than U.S. intelligence and military analysts expected, prompting fears that Beijing will attack Taiwan in the next two years, according to Pentagon officials.

U.S. defense and intelligence officials say all the signs point in one troubling direction: Beijing then will be forced to go to war with the United States, which has vowed to defend Taiwan against a Chinese attack.

China's military buildup includes an array of new high-technology weapons, such as warships, submarines, missiles and a maneuverable warhead designed to defeat U.S. missile defenses. Recent intelligence reports also show that China has stepped up military exercises involving amphibious assaults, viewed as another sign that it is preparing for an attack on Taiwan.

"There's a growing consensus that at some point in the mid-to-late '90s, there was a fundamental shift in the sophistication, breadth and re-sorting of Chinese defense planning," said Richard Lawless, a senior China-policy maker in the Pentagon. "And what we're seeing now is a manifestation of that change in the number of new systems that are being deployed, the sophistication of those systems and the interoperability of the systems."

They say this every decade... that China's all ready to rock and roll.

It never happens, but maybe this time perhaps?

I wonder if Gertz is working on a second China book. It's been a few years since the first one.

Friends of ours who spend a great deal of time in China on Business and who are Thai/Chinese, are convinced that China will use a massive Islamist terrorist attack on America as cover for any invasion of Taiwan. When asked if the Communist government is capable of also assisting the Attack on The United States, the reply is, "It's hard to say what they are capable of." I can see their point but don't know where things would go after that. I would think China is not that much of a gambler.

We should have available the conventional forces to decisively defeat any Chinese aggression. But rather than have our navy decimated in a war with China, we should be prepared to nuke the Chinese staging areas and attack forces. China is counting on a quick conventional victory. They cannot afford to have their military wrecked in a nuclear attack. And if they have any thoughts of playing nuclear gamesmanship with the U.S., their society will be destroyed. They know that.

Why not? They have all the technology they need. Clinton gave it to them.

2012 is the year of the dragon. All signs point to something big happening then. Look at what is going on in the world today. We are going to be surrounded. South America is tilting communist. Europe is in decline, Muslims are invading their countries, and their answer is... to become Anti-American. Asia...we know what is going on there. We are funding their war machine, now they are looking to buy our companies, and take our resources. The Democrats are too stupid to care (or know full well what is happening) while the Republican'ts are cheering on this "free trade" insanity.

"If we 'defeated' the Soviet Union by bankrupting them...How do we expect to defeat China by making them RICH?"

Then look at the olympics in 2008. That is China's "coming out party." It is their statement to the world that they are a now officially a superpower. After that, they will start turning, it reminds me of the the first 3 episodes of Star Wars.

All benevolence turns to aggression as the Chesire cat mask of the smiling Chinese is replaced by something far worse. Taiwan is attacked, we defend them, we suffer casulties. The media and our Congress tell us we need to "pull back," "the risk is too high," and "we are causing needless escalation." If we ignore the usual fellow travelers, and do face them head on, they have plenty of surprises very very close by, and IN THIS COUNTRY to take care of us in an aysymetrical fashion.

"I always thought that one day, when China has everything they need, they will just seize our factories and dare us to do something about it. What would we do? THEY OWN OUR SMART BOMB FACTORIES!!!"

Why not add an armed "Reconquista" uprising in Kalifornia, Texas, Nueva Mexico, etc., for shits and giggles?

The 08 Olympics in Beijing sound eerily like they'll be to Red China what the 36 Olypics in Berlin were for the Nazis. Let's hope that W's successor (Dem or Rep I have no wish to see esclation of war either way of that nature) is no Chamberlain...

If it come to blows with China we can thank and hold accountable the politicians, business interests, mouthpieces and globalist idiots who fed this confrontation. It will be particularly satisfying to slap around the little sycophants who sold us this pack of lies.

That's exactly right. And that's what I meant. But China will be far more formidable than Germany.

It's a novel idea that's not new. However, people taking advantage of America don't want to have a Hispaniola insurrection...especially Spanish speaking Americans. If immigrant Latino/Hispanic Americans wanted another Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, etc., they would have stayed put in their country of origin.

Recall the overwhelming majority of Islamic/Muslims in America that never sided with terrorism and preferred the quiet peace-loving, money-making lifestyle that America offers. Where were all the exploding gas stations, falling air planes, and assassinated politicians when our nation was weakest? It didn't happen...

But, if China used North Korean SOF forces, that might be a different story.
