My opinion: the fall of the repressive Soviet Union led to a renaissance of Judaism in Russia and the aliyah (emigration of Russian Jews to Israel) took a big hit. The Israeli aliyah professionals became so desperate to fill their quotas they signed up non-Jews, even neo-Nazis.
I am all in favor of aliyah but I think it should be an informed decision, not based on false hysteria.
