A Street-Fighter Mentality on Illegal Immigration( LA Times shows Bias)
L A Times ^ | June 27, 2005 | Fred Alvarez

Posted on 06/27/2005 10:29:32 AM PDT by Ramonan

As the insults flew and the protest reached a boil, Joseph Turner couldn't help but smile.

The 29-year-old head of the upstart Save Our State organization had come to Baldwin Park to pick a fight over illegal immigration.

They got all of the fight they could handle. Hundreds of counter-protesters in the predominantly Latino city rose up to meet them, chanting "Go home, racists!"

"I couldn't have scripted it better," said Turner, a former stock trader who runs the anti-illegal immigration group from his Ventura home.

"My goal is to continually keep this issue in the forefront of the American consciousness,"

"Save Our State is not saving anything. They are just creating more hate and division," said Antonio Bernabe, coordinator of the day-labor program.

But with little to show for years of complaining about illegal immigration, Turner believes he has hit upon a solution that will work. He calls it "aggressive activism."

"I call it a street-fighter mentality," said Turner, a stay-at-home dad and Little League coach. "Too often our side has been reactive. I need to get rid of apathy and create activism.

Turner said he isn't looking for anything that radical. But he said he is tired of politicians promising to clamp down on illegal immigration, then doing nothing about it. And he said he is increasingly alarmed by what he views as attempts by activists to launch "La Reconquista," a theory that holds that militants of Mexican descent are plotting to take back California and other parts of the Southwest.

Turner said it angers him "when they say this land was stolen and it's going to go back to Mexico," Turner said. "You know what? You're going to have to take me out first."

and the L.A. Times wonders why it's losing circulation and advertisers...

between the Muslim terrorists and the illegals roaming about the country unabated; while the Supremes give away your rights to property and the ridiculous ruling on the Ten Commandments; it's only a matter of time before there is another American revolution...

and GWB just sits there leaving the front and back doors WIDE OPEN...

Let them have the wefare state. It might be the best thing that ever happened to the USA. We'd get rid of a whole bunch of lefties and queers all in one swoop. They would officially be back in Mexico, and lefty's would have to "threaten" to run away to another country.

Good to see people like Turner are fighting back and not rolling over and playing dead like the politicians in DC.

I agree 100%. It not like we ever have a chance in Califonia anyway. For those good Republicans in California, maybe it would be a good idea to consider moving. I sure wouldn't want to live there. Sky-high housing prices plus it's turning into Mexico Norte.

I agree. But this is a losing battle for all of us. Greece can't even keep Albanians from crossing their border by the hundreds of thousands and that border is comparatively tiny.

Plus, we've got two long-term economic factors which will cause US business interests to keep wanting more and more illegal alien labor: 1) our aging population which will require many services 2) globalization which will force us to manufacture as cheaply as possible to compete with the Chinas in the world.

Places like Sweden with labor restrictions and high wages don't stand a chance in the global economy, long-term. But at least they will still be Swedish 50 years from now.

This is a bit like the L.A. Times taking about the Earth being "round" after spending years ignoring it being round and instead fawning over members of the Flat Earth Society.

Contact readers.rep *at* latimes.com and suggest they look into the background of those on the other side of the Baldwin Park protest. Their other report made it sound like a block party, but the signs they were carrying held a quite different message.

Good thinking. I'll take a pay-cut sell my nest egg that appreciates at the rate of about 102% every five years, and flee to the Midwest or the South where I can sweat to death half the year, and freeze the other half, while dodging tornados, and hail year round.

At least i'll have a front row seat to watch the invasion continue, and watch a lot of know-it-alls squirm when the figure out that you can run from the problem.

You think it would stop at California? As soon as they turned it into the kind of corrupt hole that Mexico is, they'd be streaming over the borders to Arizona, Utah, Oregon, etc. Your argument is like saying, "let's give the hobos and vermin the guest room, we'll just live in the rest of the house." Doesn't work for long.

Mexico gets more money from people sending it back from the US than from Tourism. It would have been better if Mexico went Commie instead of Cuba. At least we would have closed the border then.
