Poll: Media Weakening U.S. Defenses

A new poll by the Pew Research Center shows that a rising number of Americans are now concerned that media criticism of the military is hurting the U.S.'s ability to defend itself.

Nearly half - 47 percent - say that by criticizing the military so frequently, news organizations are weakening the nation's defenses.

Forty-four percent say, on the other hand, that the media's criticism keeps the nation militarily prepared. More than two-thirds of Republicans - 67 percent - objected to the way the press covers the military, while only 36 percent of Democrats disapproved of the media's anti-military coverage.

The number of those now saying that the press is anti-military has increased dramatically since the 9/11 attacks, when only a little more than a third of those surveyed thought the press was too critical.

The poll notwithstanding, the anti-war rhetoric of the governing Dems is treasonous because, at its foundation, it is not philosophically motivated (i.e. a principled aversion to war); but rather, it is wholly politically motivated.

The Dems are widely perceived by Americans as weak on defense. As long as the war in Iraq and on terror prevail, the Dems know they will have a difficult time winning back power.

Additionally, as long as we maintain a ME presence, the GOP cuts in to the Dems base, i.e. the Jewish vote.

As a consequence, the Dems current strategy of undercutting and undermining our war effort and military, is an insidious plan to gain power at the expense of the Nation.

They should be called on it time and time again. It's treason.

Clean your muskets and sharpen your pitchforks and get ready to ride to the sound of the guns.(KELO) :o}-

Dems, hello??? We could get out of Vietnam; we can’t GET OUT of terrorism.

At least we know nearly half the nation isn't insane, yet.

I would be more interested in the criticism of the MSM by the military.

Wishful thinking.

"I guess 47% hate our freedom."

Oh, indeed. "Freedom" to a liberal always consists of the moral condemnation of America. That's liberal "freedom."

Most of us in FR have been aware of this for quite some time. In the attempt to hurt the Bush Administration, the MSM constantly point out the bad news, inaccurate reports, and many, many biased reports a la Rather!

All this served to lower the expectations of our military in action. Vietnam is also a good example of this. Nixon is also another example of this.

MSM may enjoy the "Freedom of the Press" but they need to understand the responsibilities that come with it!

Aaahh, to hell with it!

Only 67% of republicans? Most must only listen to talk radio. Otherwise it would be closer to 90%

Eventually, there will be a backlash, and it won't be pretty.

The idiot Ken on the John and Ken Show was on the radio today saying Iraq is just like Viet Nam and no one really cares what happens there because it is so far away. Anyone who relates the war in Iraq to Viet Nam is a numb-skull, the commies never flew airplanes into skyscrapers and killed 3000 pedestrians. John is one of the biggest idiots on radio, his voice alone is enough to make you want to strangle him. Typical whiny azz liberal with his head so far up his butt he would suffocate if he ever smelled fresh air.

Well tell that to Katie Kouric who loves polls that show how bad the military is. She recently went on and on with mumble jumble in the interview with Dr. Rice. I loathed her and her type.

Most Americans realize that Viet Nam should be used as a learning tool, not an excuse to cower in the face of our enemies.

Does this mean that the attempt to work with the enemy as in the Vietnam war isn't going to work the same way?
