".... On the contrary, professional illustrators are responsible for preserving the techniques and traditions of classical art......"

Thanks for reinforcing my opinion!

Somehow the Jackson Pollockian dribbling-of-paint, while interesting, has continued to breed the banal crap that passes as 'High Art' out there nowadays amongst the sissy-boy Metrosexuals in Chelsea and Soho.

Either Jackson Pollack, or my four year old grandaughter, not sure.

I've heard it said that the well-known artists of the early post impressionist period (Kandinsky up through Pollock) all had a good deal of formal training in the techniques of the painter's craft.

With the result being that their works will survive of hundreds of years (assuming that's a Good Thing).

Where by contrast many of today's gallery artists have had so much artistic expression and so little paintcraft in their training, that their works (especially when done in "experimental" media) are starting to deteriorate after only a few years.

*LOL*

I think the content would be upsetting to the faggots in the generally Lefist, contemporary-art community.

However, a Crucifix in a jar of urine is okay by them.

Some doesn't have very far to go. Like the rotting cow carcasses shown in avant garde British museums.

Well, I have to chime in. I hope it's not too early. Woofie, sorry.

First three are by Cezanne.

1.Still Life with Apples 1880s

2. Cardplayers late 1880s, early 1890s

3. Boy which I think inspired the following Picasso (unless it is indeed a Picasso; unsure here, but I should know it):

4.I couldn't get this pointilist one. I thought Signac, but I think the Klimt designation is good (especially knowing how Liz loves Klimt)

5.Degas (signed)

6.Gauguin self-portrait. Great for someone to include the other, more famous self-portrait.

7.Picasso

8.Picasso, woman, rose period, c. 1906

9.Picasso, early self-portrait, c. 1901

10.Degas Self-portrait

11.?? Brando-type portrait, no idea

12.Matisse is my guess.

By the way, many of these are a good test for me too. And I don't cheat by looking things up in my books.

I agree with someone else: where are the answers to the first quiz?!?!

Snort----somebody invariably throwns those "paintings" in on the art threads.

But they're better than a lot of the real "art" that I've seen!

Cezanne, Cezanne, Picasso, ?, Degas, Gaugin, Picasso, Picasso, Picasso, Degas, Picasso, and if that's a Matisse it's certainly not his best...

Yeah, I wouldn't have guessed it. It's very different from most of his works we're used to seeing. These are Klimt's.............
