I have watched these stories on KYW-TV for the last week or so and was moved to tears. There were servicemen and women, and their children, shown crying because of the disrepair and neglect of this memorial. Larry Mendte, KYW news anchorman, made things happen. His reports and the outpouring of phone calls by viewers got the attention of the city and the National Park Service, which immediately went to the memorial and lit candles until the city fixed the gas line. It is so wonderful to see the media putting its power to use for a patriotic cause for a change. Kudos to KYW!!!

I visited the dingy border town of Cop in the Ukraine, back in 1992. Even their eternal flame dedicated to WWII was lit.

If those veterans had been gay, the City of Filthydelphia would have been all over repairing it like white on rice -- years ago.
