SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A homicide investigator says he has cracked the gruesome murder of a Bay Area youth counselor 12 years ago.
On June 6, 1993, volunteers picking up litter near a creek bed off Highway 9 in Saratoga discovered a suitcase.
Inside were garbage bags containing the dismembered body of a woman, with her hands and head missing.
There was little hope she would ever be identified.
"Without the dental charts or the fingerprints, it's almost an impossible task to identify someone," said Sgt. Ken Kahn.
Now, more than a decade later, cold case investigator Pedro Contreras says the body has been identified as Stephanie Jensen, who was reported missing out of San Francisco.
With the help of the U.S. Department of Justice, Contreras was able to narrow down the list of possible victims to the 31-year-old youth counselor.
They identified her using DNA samples from a member of her family.
"When I told them I identified our Jane Doe as Stephanie Jensen -- it brought a lot of relief to them," he said.
Contreras tracked him down in Middleton, Idaho, where state police arrested him without a struggle about two weeks ago.
Contreras offers few details on what the motive might be.
The case will really only be solved when and if there is a murder conviction. But for now, Contreras is happy that at least the victim has been identified.
"We're finally finding out what happened to Stephanie Jensen," he said.
Bennett is being extradited from Idaho and is expected to be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail Friday.

(I had to read it a few times...)
Bennett looks like a fiend.
I was confused, which is very easily done:) I think this part is missing.

I should have read your post before I read the article for the third time trying to figure it out.
Saw a snip on the news tonight. Thanks!
Wow - glad they caught this slimeball. 12 years is a long time for her family to wait...
nick's on one of his posting rolls, or else he probably would've noticed that something was missing.
I guess I accidentaly took that sentence out as a caption to the photo or something.
Are you still, "over there?"

Certainly a long time. I hope the Aruba case doesn't take this long. However, judging by the news bits that come out it doesn't look good.
Nope! Am back in CA.....
Glad to hear your back safely. Thanks for serving.
Thanks for the ping. I've been following this story since it broke. This guy is really nuts and I'm glad Stephanie Jensen's family isn't any longer in limbo. But what a way to find out she was probably tortured and killed.
