These cases should always be the main focus of the news every night.

They usually are on the local/area news.

I was hoping I would wake up to better news this morning.

Lately, the odds seem to be pointing to family friends or friends of friends.

In my day, we didn't "screen" people like we should now.

The first rule of parenting NOW should be doing everything in your power to control who has access to your children. It's usually not a good idea to leave them with males (sorry guys) or females with strange male companions who will get anywhere near them, and that is very hard to do, but it MUST be done; it's getting that dangerous.

Young people haven't accumulated a file in their minds of news stories where you see patterns and tend to be more careless and carefree about leaving their kids with the boyfriend who may have his friends around. Tragedies have happened even with more educated males. No child in our country is really safe any more.

Even at my age, I don't know how you screen "trusted" male friends and even some female ones.

It is indeed getting harder to "screen" others. The key is being vigilant I guess and teaching kids what to do in case something happens, though this has usually been in the form of "stranger danger."

I would be a PPP parent now. That would be perpetually paranoid parent.

The bottom line is that no matter how careful you are these days, bad things can still happen, not to mention the usual accidents, getting lost, etc.

All you can do is try to stay one step ahead and hope and pray for the best.

The number of freaks out there has definitely skyrocketed. I blame it on maladjusted personalities and pornographic stimulation. Too many people just don't grow up "normal" any more.

All the more reason for having strong families and being good parents.

Amen to that. And if you find yourself outside this framework, you can still live by the same values and teach them to your children. Having an inter-generational support system works well, too.

Once a woman has a child out of wedlock, her chances diminish in finding a suitable mate, I don't know by what percentage. I have seen a few people turn their lives around. Usually they happen to have good personalities and are nice looking which helps. Sad but true.

Children from never married parents and divorced are at higher risk. I had a friend who was widowed, in a good economic strata, her children were very young, and she did an excellent job of raising them by herself. She was in church every Sunday, Methodist if it matters.

Evelyn, the daughter of Noel Miller and Andy Christie, was last seen at 2 a.m. Friday morning by two men, friends of Miller's fiance.

How in the world do these two men see a 5 year old child in the middle of the night???

CHARLES CITY, IA — A Charles City home was searched today in the case of Evelyn Miller, a 5-year-old rural Floyd girl missing from her home since Friday morning.

Law enforcement authorities conducted a "criminal investigation" with a search warrant at 311 Ninth Ave., according to a Floyd County Sheriff Department news release.

Authorities reported Marge Maser, Randy Patrie and Dan Stick live at that address.

The land search for the missing girl, by more than 200 law enforcement officials and volunteers, has been expanded from its initial five-mile radius of the apartment complex.

Search teams have ended their work for the day and will resume at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Foot patrol, ATVs, horses, kayaks and boats were used in the effort again today and included searches of ditches, bridges, waterways and fields in the area.

The boyfriend.....or fiance or whatever. Seems he slept through the 2 friends that visited at 2am. Hinky meter on this tall tale.

Latest:

FLOYD, IA — Authorities executed a search warrant at 311½ 9th Ave. in Charles City Monday afternoon. Three people live at that residence — Randy Patrie, Dan Slick and Marge Maser. The two men are friends of Miller's fiance, Casey Frederiksen and said they saw Evelyn asleep on a love seat in the family's apartment when they stopped by to visit Frederiksen at 2 or 2:30 a.m. Friday. Both men have been interviewed by law enforcement officials. Neither had been taken into custody as of late Monday evening.

The Associated Press reported Sunday that authorities said Frederiksen, 26, passed a lie-detector test after he was questioned for about four hours.

A car also was searched at the Floyd County Courthouse on Monday as part of the investigation, Lynch said. However, he declined to give details about the owner of the vehicle, where it came from or what was found.
