Cops Say Child Molester Preys On The Innocent (Orange County, Texas)

One of the most tragic aspects of child molestation is the long-term trauma victims often experience. Perpetrators use mind control to get away with their sick crimes. They "groom" their victims, carefully choosing children who will trust and listen to them. Eventually, the physical abuse begins, and by the time anyone can step in, these children have been violated in ways that continue to haunt them -- often for the rest of their lives.

Cops say Marlon James Winters is one of these sick criminals who preys on the innocent. They say he uses classic child molestation tactics to commit his crimes -- slowly gaining a child's trust by taking them on bike rides, teaching them to play the drums, and giving them gifts. Once he has their trust, cops say he makes his move, molesting and raping the children. Cops say Winters is able to keep up his behavior by threatening the kids, using his authority as an adult to frighten them into submission.

New Neighborhood, New Targets Cops say Marlon Winters' perverted behavior started in Germany, where he lived and served in the military. Cops say they believe Winters molested his own children, then left his wife and kids to come to Orange County, Texas. Orange County Investigators say in his new neighborhood, Winters targeted his neighbor's little girls--a nine-year-old, and her six-year-old sister.

Investigators believe Winters began his typical routine of grooming the girls, referring to the molestation as a "game" that little girls in Germany like to play. Eventually, cops say he began raping and repeatedly assaulting them. Cops say the girls' mother had recently suffered a stroke, and Winters used it to his advantage. They say he told the girls their mother would die if they told anyone about the "games." Cops say Winters also used his adult authority to keep them quiet, telling them no one would believe a child's word over an adult's.

Winters thought these tactics were enough to keep the girls quiet. But the younger child didn't understand the "games" and eventually asked her mother about them. In July 1999, Winters was indicted on five counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, and two counts of Indecency with a Child by the Grand Jury of Orange County, Texas. But Winters was able to post the $15,000 bond, and then fled. He hasn't been seen since.

Cops: He's Still Out There Molesting Police say they are certain Winters is out there continuing to molest and sexually assault children. During their investigation and search for Winters, cops found another child the predator was apparently grooming as his next victim. They say he had been teaching her to play drums in his garage and had already heard him talk about his infamous "games." Cops also received reports that Winters had inappropriate contact with some young boys, but they were relatives of Winters and refused to speak about the incidents.

Equally troubling was the storage shed authorities found. Winters had stored many of his personal belongings on a relative's property, and among the boxes, cops found dozens of newspaper clippings. But these weren't random sections cut from newspapers, they all had one thing in common -- children. Many of the clippings were of kids from school-related articles, and some even had the kids' names and addresses. Investigators fear Winters was using these clippings to target his next victims.

Police are hoping someone will recognize Winters and call in a tip that takes him off the street. They say it's the only way to get him to stop preying on innocent children.

Statements like this is what gives vigilantism a bad name.
You forgot the most important item: "make sure you have the right guy!"

Nice story, I don't know why these people are even granted bail. But who lets their little children spend time alone with an adult male (or female for that matter) who is not a relative? I know it said the mother had a stroke, but she was still caring for her children, so what was up with that?

Statistically, the most dangerous adult to children is the boyfriend of the single mom.

If there's any evidence that any child molester stops after his first jail term, I haven't seen it. This crime is too heinous for any civilized society to tolerate. I'd like the death penalty for first offenders, but I'd settle for life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Approximately 4,300 child molesters were released from prisons in 15 States in 1994. An estimated 3.3% of these 4,300 were rearrested for another sex crime against a child within 3 years of release from prison.

I thought the same thing. Wouldn't want them preying on the guilty now would we.

Even then, sometimes the molester is a close relative.

I'm sick of these states, counties, judges, lawyers, ACLU (whomever) that insist these creeps be allowed out on bail, released early on parole or otherwise allowed to run free with only a "please check in when you can" promise.

I think it's time we start holding these people responsible for allowing dangerous individuals back out into society where they continue to rape and kill children.

How many child murder stories have we read where the perp was out on bail or on early release?

If he had been a catholic priest, the "church" would have leaned on the police and prosecutor, promised to "deal" with the perp, and threatened/intimidated/paid off the family for silence and moved him to an unsuspecting distant location.
This guy made a poor career chice, not in that he is a child rapist, but in not becoming a priest in the RCC.
$15,000 bail for child rape...
In a way it's good... people are eventually going to see the ludicrous-ness of our laws in this regard.
I say- Death to all child rapists.
First time, every time.
No bail.
If caught red (!) handed, no trial.
As judge Roy Bean reportedly said, "What are you telling me for? Hang him."

Not to pick on you, but I've been seeing and hearing that a lot from people regarding molesters and pedophiles.

My first reaction is always, "What about the prisoners at Gitmo? Are they entitled to better treatment?"

Unfortunately, the name of the judge who let this poisonous predator off with $15,000 bail was not included in this article. I think we need a law that mandates that the judge's name be released in any case like this so the local people will know to throw the bum out in the next election...that or make him take the pervert to his own home to live.

How many more chuldren have to be raped before people "get it
"?

They are Demons, walking around, amongst your children.
Do you love your kids?
I still fail to understand these people.
As far as I'm concerned, the Judge should swing for this, alongside the perp.

Don't worry, I don't feel picked on. But I am confused. What do the prisoners at Gitmo have to do with child molesters? Without knowing the answer to that, my initial response is that the prisoners at Gitmo should be thanking God every time they pray for the unbelievably high standard of living to which a US prison has introduced them. Are they entitled to BETTER treatment? No, they're not entitled to the excellent treatment they're already getting.

I am e-mailing you to let you know that my daughters never and I mean NEVER stayed the night with this beast. Marlon James Winters was never a friend of mine. He was my ex-husband's neighbor. This beast went after my daughters not because they are from a divorced family but because he is a sick beast. Do not give him a reason to target anyone....And again I never let my babies alone with any man.

To Ellesu,
I have no idea who you are but you should know the whole story before making comments about the parents of molested children. I (the mother of the two girls) have never let my babies alone with any man. Beast such as Marlon James Winters preys on all children. No matter what the home life is like. My daughters were with their father when this beast set his target on them, but I promise you he never did think this beast could or would hurt them. So find out all the facts about the story you are talking about before you make your comments!!!!!!!!
