Senator demands Rove answer questions about leak

BY MICHAEL MCAULIFF

New York Daily News

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - It's time for President Bush's political mastermind to step up and say whether he leaked the name of a CIA agent whose cover was blown in the press, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Sunday.

Schumer's demand came Sunday after reports surfaced Saturday that White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove spoke to a Time magazine reporter about agent Valerie Plame.

Rove's lawyer Robert Luskin told Newsweek that Rove never revealed classified information or told reporter Matthew Cooper that Plame, the wife of an ambassador who was critical of the administration, worked for the CIA.

Knowingly revealing the identity of an undercover agent is a federal crime, and an independent investigator is conducting a criminal probe.

Schumer said a statement of Rove's innocence from Luskin isn't good enough.

"We've heard it from his lawyer, but it would be nice to hear it directly from Mr. Rove that he didn't leak the identity of Valerie Plame, and that he didn't direct anyone else to do such a dastardly thing," said Schumer.

Plame was outed after her husband, Joseph Wilson, discredited Bush administration claims that then-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was trying to buy the raw materials to refine uranium from Niger. Her CIA status was made public by columnist Robert Novak.

Citing the ongoing probe, the White House said Sunday that it would not comment beyond Luskin's remarks.

Seems like the strategy is to get Rove to speak on this topic. Don't know why he would do that, but both O'Donnell and Senator Chuck taunted Rove to admit his innocence. Go figure.

This is typical Democrat strategy. Repeat a lie so often that in the public's mind, it becomes the truth. Then when the real truth surfaces, people are either tired of the subject or think that's the lie.

A perfect example of this are the AWOL charges concerning Bush's Guard record. Another is the charge the Gitmo guards flushed the Koran down the toilet.

Oh, boy, let's have congressional hearings. Let's tar and feather Rove and ride him out of DC on a rail! Then impeach the President! The dems can't think their way out of a paper bag. They're still using that worn old playbook that's brought them and the country nothing but grief, but it's all they have. Yawn.

well they expect their followers to NOT believe Rove either way....

The Dems are GREAT at playing to their audience. Which is why you can't trust them at all.

Memo to Schumer: Karl waived confidentiality for the reporters he spoke with. Do you honestly believe he'd do that if he had something to hide?

Answer: Schumer isn't too bright, so yes, he might just believe it.

First there was a drumbeat from the legacy media for the Justice Dept to investigate the leak. So Bush and Ashcroft said OK we will appoint a special prosecutor. The prosecutor now is threatening some protected reporters of the legacy media with jail time - so it is all Bush's fault.

The logic of the Dem is revolting.

Note to Chuckie Scummer: Dear Mr Scummer, Carl Rove will not be Bush's Supreme Court nominee. Repeat will not be. So Mr. Scummer better get your Roving eyes and mouth on the issue that is really going to stick it to the Democrats in the Senate, the Supreme Court.

Chuck, my boy, How slow you learn! This is the Bush administration not the Clinton. Karl Rove can drive you nuts because he does not leak!
