And as someone may have failed to point out to you, the people in Blount County were bound by that vote to secede with the majority of their fellow-citizens, who in the whole, acting as their State, were the sovereign power and were authorized to take the step of secession, and to bind everyone in the State to the will of the whole People thereof.
"I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man"
And that includes tyranny at the state level. There is question about the legitimacy of the Tennessee secession. Secession had already been voted down once in Tennessee and was only ratified after the politicians had invited the Confederate army into the midst of the state. To the everlasting honor of the old Blount County people, they stayed loyal the the old Union despite the sovereign state being overrun with hordes from outside the sovereign state.. It's a shame that current Blount residents seem ignorant of this proud heritage and are willing to unthinkingly embrace a "hooray for Dixie" attitude that would be repugnant to their ancestors.
Heritage not hate, nor ignorance.
