The Chinese government on Monday sharply criticized the United States for threatening to erect barriers aimed at preventing the attempted takeover of the American oil company Unocal Corp. by one of China's three largest energy firms, CNOOC Ltd.

"We demand that the U.S. Congress correct its mistaken ways of politicizing economic and trade issues and stop interfering in the normal commercial exchanges between enterprises of the two countries," the Foreign Ministry said in a written statement. "CNOOC's bid to take over the U.S. Unocal company is a normal commercial activity between enterprises and should not fall victim to political interference. The development of economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States conforms to the interests of both sides."

So the Chicoms are making demands of Congress now? ROFL. Even constituents can't make demands of Congress anymore.

Since when did the Chinese Communists embrace the laissez-faire economics of classical liberalism?

The last I recall, Congress has every right to be involved in this. I also don't recall when we were supposed to be subservient to China.

I echo datura's sentiments.....

Hey China.... Shut The F%&k Up!

Let's sell Unocal to Taiwan... that ought to make China PO'ed.

Hey Datura, What do you mean they have no right to tell Congress what to do ?
After as much money as they have spent on American politicians they are expecting some payback.

I believe all of these politicians that have been in bed with the chicoms should be charged with treason and summarily punished.

The Chinese government owns at least a minority if not majority stake in all Chinese businesses. This allows them to "slush" money and resources between them to target our specific industries that benefit their specific strategic goals. We buy their cheap plastic trinkets, they then buy our energy companies. Or at least try to, depending on how many brain dead people are in D.C. at the present time.
